This is a low key way to learn about the history of Richmond and the shipping trade that existed in Richmond. Our very informative guide was passionate about Richmond's history and his description of the ships and trading that existed in the canal area made the area come alive with activity in our imaginations. The price is VERY reasonable and... More

Richmond has an interesting history and so were the canals. Whilst there are interesting points about the foundation of Richmond, railways, different industries etc the ride it could be a bit quicker. The fee is reasonable. If you are hungry try the Tap House after the tour which is adjacent to the canal boats - they were reasonable emails and... More

Rusty was the Tour Guide / Captain and he interjected both sights, sounds and plenty of local history. This is a must do when in Richmond. Park along the Sea Wall and stroll the canal after buying your tickets. The boat ride was wonderful even with 100 degree heat.

The stories shared on this little canal boat ride were interesting. Sadly, Charles could not control his enthusiasm and shouted in the microphone for most of the trip. We plugged our ears with tissues and fingers. It was hard to listen as he bellowed. The tickets were reasonable, but the trip itself was short and unimpressive.

The canal cruise was AWESOME. Our guide was so informative and full of such unique facts and information that we really enjoyed ourselves. A great time for the whole family.

We took the canal cruise just because we enjoy riding on water. The added bonus was the very informative narrative that went along with it. We learned a lot of history about Richmond and enjoyed a very peaceful ride.

We lived in Richmond for 12 years but never saw this area and heard the history of the waterfront area before. We visited with our 9 year old grandson and he loved it. Along the way our guide, David Robinson, shared history and oddities about the area. We also saw painted turtles and blue herons and it was really quite... More

I took a group on the Canal Cruise on Saturday, June 13, 2015. It was a hot day but we still enjoyed it. Our captain was Charles Hibber. He did a good job of guiding the boat and giving us the history of the canal and surrounding things that we saw. The price of the cruise is very reasonable and... More

There is so much history in the few square miles around Richmond Downtown. And this short, cheap and fun-filled boat ride is an excellent way to remind ourselves of what Americans went through to make this country great (and how, unfortunately, we haven't taken many lessons from history and have failed to change at many many levels). Starts at the... More
