We had visited Boston during the first weekend of October for a sampling of fall colors and were unaware of the big event that was about to take place. I spotted a magazine cover in the hotel lobby that featured the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) on its 50th anniversary. I looked it up and was amazed I had... More

It is lovely to just drive by and watch the scullers working hard. The Charles makes every place you go look better. It is not even so bad to be stuck in traffic on Memorial Drive. It is always clean and well kept.

We walked an 8.5 mile loop, starting at Harvard Square. We took the street to the bridge to Harvard stadium, but turned left along the Memorial Dr river path. We walked past Harvard and MIT. We could see the gold dome of the State House. We crossed on a bridge near MIT with stairs to the Boston side path. There... More

Lots of things to do - rowing, sailing - and see on the river and in the former docks area, irrespective of time of year

all along the Charles there are many events to enjoy: the hat shell in Boston, the Science museum and locks where the Charles flows into the Boston Harbor, the skate board park soon to be under the Zakim bridge, running, riding, walking along the banks, or kayaking and rowing off Soldiers Field road

Not only can one walk, run, and cycle along the banks but now it's safe to jump in and swim! One can also sail, row, kayak, canoe and power boat on the water! Both the north and south sides of the River are beautifully maintained and offer a myriad of activities! The Charles River Conservation group is largely responsible for... More

The Charles River is gorgeous. It is also a very busy area for runners, rowers and visitors. It is beautiful at night with Boston's skyline. If you are staying in the area, I do recommend a hotel with a view of the river.

No visitor to Boston should miss spending time along the Charles, either on the Boston or the Cambridge sides. There are good walking/running and biking paths, and some truly nice views.

We had a lovely walk across the bridge and watched little boats sail in a pattern. It may have been a class or perhaps a competition. It was a lovely walk and was interesting to observe the small sailboats.
