Even if you don't get the chance to go inside, you should still make the trek to this site. Numerous memorials on the grounds and majestic all in itself.

The Capitol is situated in a grassy block in the heart of Springfield. The building is massive with its dome rising high overhead. Self guided tours include the galleries of both houses of the legislature. The walls and ceilings are adorned with pictures of the history of Illinois. I am a fan of state capitols and rank Illinois’ as better... More

best toured on weekdays when visitors are allowed above the first floor. Newly renovated back to original finery. Worth an hour and a half visit. Metered parking all around.

Just as the title says.. well worth the stop of beautiful architecture. Amusing was the Hall of (past) Governors and a spot unfilled due to impeachment.. I dare not speak his name but Illinis know of whom I'm speaking.

If our are an Illinois resident, especially a voting or future voting one, the best Capital tour is one courtesy of your senator or representative's office here. They don't have to, but if you call or email your favored politician here most will arrange a quick tour of this impressive historic office building along with a short meeting to hear... More

I have been to many state capitals and this was definitely the most basic standardized tour I have seen. The guide was nice and knowledgable but really was just doing one more tour. There were only 4 people on our tour, which made it easy to be quick about things even though we asked questions. The capital itself has some... More

We were getting ready to leave and had a little time to spare so we walked over from our Hotel, the State House Inn to see the State Capitol Building. Having grown up here I had toured it when I was in High School. It was a free guided tour, every 30 minutes, and we got to see the beautiful... More

The building is an impressive one, the architecture is really nice, especially the atrium, with gilded decorations.

We visited this beautiful building on a snowy day, and had a private tour! Very impressive building with beautiful artwork, architecture and furnishings. During the 30 minute free tour, our guide was very informative and we learned lots of fun trivia. She was also great about taking pictures of our group. It would have been nice to take the walking...
