This Capitol building is topped with a fabulous stained-glass dome, but the whole place is just wonderful. The tour is definitely worth taking, as the guides are informative and helpful.

The building exceeded all expectations! Incredible dome, Ornate. Definitely try and do one of the escorted tours (free). No trip to Springfield would be complete without a visit.

Our family recently completed a nationwide tour of our nations State Capitols. Of the 48 in the continental US, the Illinois Capitol is one of the most impressive. While we enjoyed our tour, the guide moved us along a bit fast for our pace. He shared a lot of good information but could have given us more time to appreciate... More

This tour takes about 45 minutes and covers the rotunda, the House , the Senate and the old Supreme Courtroom. Our guide stuck to her script very closely, but she answered questions when she could. The gold and marble and art are all very impressive.

As capitol buildings go, this is one of the most impressive! We didn't have time for a guided tour, but one of the staff told us the "must sees." Everything is in pristine condition! The Supreme Court room and galleries were elegant. (One gallery is being repaired/remodeled.) The view from the bottom of the dome is breathtaking!

First, this is just an amazingly beautiful Capitol, floor to ceiling and everything inbetween. We felt very fortunate that it was open on Sundays, and were doubly pleased that a free tour was offered. Our guide was a delight and gave us plenty of time to to take pictures - and even gave us great advice about where to stand... More

I enjoy traveling around the country and visiting the state capitol building. On this day I was able to get a tour that turned out to be one on one and went much longer than normal, according to the guide. We go to see the govneror's office, both chambers of the legislators and the supreme court. The capitol has many... More

Even though my father lives in Illinois he has never been on a tour of the State Capitol. We had planned on seeing other sites and told the tour guides we did not know if we would have time to do the tour. We are so glad we did. My father loved it! All of the tour guides were very... More

Abraham Lincoln may be the most famous citizen of Springfield, Illinois. But many famous names have served there as governor of Illinois. Adlai Stevenson. James Thompson. Rod Blagojevich. Good and bad have sat in the governor’s chair. The current building is actually the sixth to serve as the state capitol for Illinois. Previously, the state capitol was located in other... More

We'll if your from Illinois you may as well make a stop to the house you pay for, but it's well worth it we where able to take a private tour because one one else showed to take the tour so that was kinda nice. The agriculture inside the building is just beautiful and breathtaking. If you do make a... More
