When you come on this building particularly from straight in front it is an amazing sight. It is much larger than you would expect from a city of this size until you remember that Springfield is the state capital. But when you go inside it hits you how am amaging the building is. The locals are still using this building... More

This is a great place to bring kids to see how state government works. The tour guides are knowledgeable and audible and the representatives can usually find a minute to talk to students from their district if this is set up well in advance. It's also interesting to try to find a lobbying group that can talk with the kids... More

My husband and I have seen many state capitols and Springfield, Illinois has the prettiest by far. The stained glass dome has been recently cleaned and restored . If in session you can sit in the balcony and listen to the legislators at work.

I was in Springfield to attend a committee meeting of the legislature. The building is beautiful and fascinating to walk through. The artwork is unbelievable and each turn brings you to something different. There are elevators to help get you around, though there should be some more restrooms. Be sure to take your time and look at the rotunda.

This was a surprisingly interesting tour of this historic building. We went early in the morning and had our own private tour guide - it helped it was out of season. We were shown all around the building and were given access to the Senate & House rooms. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area.

It's nice to see the Old State Capitol after visiting the Lincoln home. It provides a great backdrop to understand Lincoln from his earlier years.

We were happy the Capitol was open on Sunday. There was a tour guide which took us up to the floors & showed us the Senate & House rooms. She was very knowledgeable & friendly. Would recommend taking the tour & learning about our Illinois history.
