Any visitor that misses the splendor of this structure has made a terrible blunder. The widely misused term "awesome" actually applies in this case. A first glance at the light filtering in from the rotunda is stunning. No, let's say breathtaking. Enjoy! And, by the way...........it's free.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It was interesting to hear how the chambers have been restored. And to see the difference between the restored wing and the not yet restored wing.

Having lived in the State of Illinois for 77 years, I am embarrassed to admit this was my first visit to the state capitol building. Thank goodness we included this site on our tour agenda, It is a magnificent building and the guided tour offers a wealth of information about the building and the functions within the pulse of our... I loved ....the interior so much !!! Just took photos..almost every cornor...up and down. The tiles,..wooden curves..panels..stairways.. halls..doors,..ceilings...lamps..lights and colors... It looked so grand and power... and art !! The special spot (for me) was the"Washrooms" where inside is for "Ladies" and "Gentlemen"...and the high big door and marble... Love them all. No entrance fee, just a security check...

This Capitol is a gem. We arrived just before they got real busy started their first tours of the day at 10 A.M. There were already several students inside, however, a woman immediately took us upstairs and "added" us to the first group tour. Our young male guide was very informative and professional. He led us from the House side,... More

Based on other reviews and pictures, we expected our visit to the Illinois State Capitol building to be lackluster at best. We were so surprised when we walked inside the capitol building and saw how pretty the interior was. We had not allowed enough time on our quick trip for a tour, but we were able to see the Supreme... More

We visited on Veteran's Day so a lot of the capitol areas were closed off for special assemblages and ceremonies. What we were able to see was well worth the trip tho. The old state capitol building is also a short couple blocks away. Please note that the trip advisor address of 207 South Club House Drive is not a... More

As most state capitol buildings, the building itself is a great piece of architecture to look at. I believe they hold tours and visits inside, but I only checked out the building at night so can't say for sure or if they are worth it.

Entering the Illinois Capitol is like entering an exotic world of the imagination. We were there on a Saturday morning which meant we were able to wander about the ground floor on our own but would have to join a guided tour to reach the upper floors (The building is completely closed on Sundays). The website describes the architecture as... More
