We really enjoyed the tour of the capital. From the moment we walked into the building everyone was friendly and informational. The guards even suggested were to go for lunch. What great representation of Springfield. Our tour guide Dorthea was kind and knowledgable. Dorthea made this tour awesome. We especially like the hall of portraits.

Worth seeing after visiting the Old State Capitol nearby. Much more opulent, with murals and statues.

The last time I was in the Illinois Capitol was for Boys State in 1962, and my memories were of a dark, dingy building that was not in the best of repair –still architecture and décor was not at the top of the list for a couple of hundred teenage boys. My inclination was to skip going in, but my... More

We were visiting Springfield to see the Lincoln exhibits and decided to see the State Capitol building as well. It is a very beautiful & impressive building outside and inside. It reminded me of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., although on a much smaller scale. The architecture, murals, columns and dome are very impressive. We did not take an... More

Hi again---it's the travelin' agents from Consumers Travel World. We've seen many state capitol buildings and this is one of the better ones. Very high dome and very ornate design. Statues and paintings everywhere. A quick and informative tour (half-hour) by a friendly, well-informed young man. Visit at your leisure and level of interest since there is plenty to see.

My Wife and I are photographers and wanted to take a few shots of this historic building. We were absolutely blown away with the interior of this Capital. The magnificent marble throughout, the statues, artwork, and staircases are unbelievable. If we had more time, we could have spent hours photographing and examining the details in the walls and ceiling. We... More

We did not stay for a tour of the State Capitol, but were able to walk around on the entry level. The building is beautiful and we were allowed to take pictures of the dome, the statues and the art work. Worth the stop.

Very beautiful building, inside and out. If you are downtown it is worth seeing. The inside of the dome is amazing.

When you come on this building particularly from straight in front it is an amazing sight. It is much larger than you would expect from a city of this size until you remember that Springfield is the state capital. But when you go inside it hits you how am amaging the building is. The locals are still using this building... More
