These two buildings have plenty of information, and is staffed by volunteers who know how to match your interests with the right places to go. Most places are within walking distance, but there are some shuttle buses to take you to Sourdough Mining and other attractions.

I went to the visit center for direction and information around Anchorage and I got much more than I expected. The staff/volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable. Obviously they are local residents and know a lot about the nature around. Besides, they will give you a lot of tips when you go different places.

A great place to stop in and warm up, and read through printed brochures that reflect what you can find online. The two volunteers were less informed about current goings-ons than I expected. Gave me bum directions to the Coastal Trail entrance, didn't have the first clue about the film festival going on THAT week, and referred me to a... More

We're glad you were able to find our log cabin to warm up in at least. We apologize for that level of service you experienced this month. The staff and volunteers should also be up to date on festivals regardless if it's a film festival or not. We will follow up on this with our visitor center staff and volunteers.... More

Neat log cabin in the heart of downtown. The ladies inside have lots of information to share. Shuttles (Zoo) and tours depart from there.

It's true the log cabin is sort of a one stop shop when you're new to Anchorage. The staff inside are full of info and tours depart from right out front. We hope to see you back soon! More

Volunteers man this attraction, which is housed in a log cabin with a sod roof, reminiscent of the first days of Anchorage, in 1915 or so. Inside there are pamphlets and brochures showcasing local and statewide attractions, and information for transportation, parks, and things to do. This is right downtown, next to a small park, where there are free summer... More

Very quaint. The employees were friendly and helpful. Booked the Anchorage Trolley Tour right outside the visitor center. Highly recommend that trolley tour.
