If you have some spare time, want to avoid touristy areas and get some exercise this is a great way to do it. Close to Anchorage with an ample parking lot at the trail head. This is a moderately strenuous hike can be windy and cold with some snow/ice patches in June. Recommend hiking boots as it is very rocky... More

Most Important: If you go on this hike, wear really good shoes, strongly consider taking trekking poles, and be prepared for steep and strenuous climbs - and some real risk. Two Boomer couples who like to hike ventured out for a first-day scenic "walk." No doubt we're not the youngest or most agile of climbers, but Flat-Top Mountain is a... More

Simple hike.....nice activity to get out of the city. We took the downtown bicycle shuttle , which was a 20-25 minute van ride. We were able to take our time with the hike and took the shuttle back to town.

We hiked Flat Top to watch the sunset around midnight in early July. It's a great hike but please note that this is for those that are in good physical shape. This is not a stroll or a city parks and rec trail. The end of the hike involves a bit of a rock scramble and a significant amount of... More

This was an amazing hike, the whole family enjoyed it, however it is extremely steep and converts into rock climbing at the end. In Texas we would call this mountain climbing, not hiking!:-). I felt like Tony Horton created this hike, but it was really gorgeous and worth it, just be careful with little kids, especially on the way down

This is a great walk but it turns into rock climbing for the final push to the summit of Flat Top. The countryside is beautiful and the the scenery is quite stunning with a plethora of photographic opportunities. The path is not sealed and is dry gravel in places. The railway sleepers for parts of the walk are helpful but... More

The trail has great views of Anchorage and Cook Inlet but is not for the easy trail hiker. The truck takes some time and is uphill (up-mountain) most of the way. But you do not need to do the whole trail to see some great sights.

This is a great hike with nice views. Footing gets really tricky after first half. This trail needs a lot of maintenance. Stairs broken, big rocks on the main trail. This could really be a first class trail. What are they doing with all the $5 fees?
