Great views, fun hikes, but crowded with tourists on weekends. Flattop is fun but short, quick drive from downtown.

This was an awesome hike. We went in the morning during the week, so it was not very crowded. You pay $5 at a vending machine. I don't know how crowded it can get, but it seemed to me there was ample parking between the two lots. It's a gravel trail which gradually rises. We had great weather for this... More

I did not do any hiking however the views were wonderful. A must do even if it's for a few minutes. Gives you an appreciation of the landscape.

It was a strenuous trail. Final ascent to the peak was only large rocks. We went on a tour so had to turnaround at 3:00 to go down the mountain. Made it to summit with 15 to spare. YAH! It was tough but the scenery is magnificent! Knees killed me on the way down. 3 days to recover.

Great views of Anchorage from above, you don't have to spend any money to get a look from above, just a short drive up and as little as a half mile walk you can get an awesome view of Anchorage and the surrounding area. You can also climb up to the top of the actual trail too which is a... More

I've hiked Flattop at least 25 times and it's a great way to get into some spectacular scenery right in Anchorage, without a long drive. It's a short hike, 3.4 miles round trip, but it is steep (1,700 feet vertical), it's a good workout getting up, and the last few hundred feet of the hike is scrambling up steep rock... More

THe hike is not really difficult. It is a gravel based trail that goes in a loop to the summit. There is a great view at the top.

Great hike, the downtown bike rentals have a shuttle to the start of the trial, $23 return. The hike is quite steep in sections and requires some scrambling on all fours the get to the top (only short bit). Coming down the scramble section could be hard if you are not confident with your footing. Great views of anchorage and... More

This is a great hike for people who are in relatively decent shape. The second part of the trail involves making your own path through and up boulders. The view at the top is worth it, but it is no piece of cake to get there! We hiked to Flattop Mt. On a day that was slightly misty, and the... More
