Okay, so you won't feel like you've climbed Everest but this hike definitely stretches your legs and there's plenty to think about. We saw enough in the way of bears and moose to keep our minds busy [?!] on the way up. From the top there is a stunning view of Anchorage and the sound. Not a view to miss.... More

Worth the drive up the hill for a nice trail walk. View is incredible! Watch out for moose and dog bombs on the trail. Need hiking shoes to do the best. Have to pay a fee to park. Bring your camera!

It is a little challenging, but I believe most folks could do it. It would be pushing a couch potato, but he/she'd feel like a million bucks afterwards! It only costs a few bucks to park and the hike and view are free.

The stairs were easy to ascend. Very difficult to descend. It took a short amount of time to get to the top, but the hike down got long. It was difficult to get my footing on the steps. Snow had turned to ice. I was cold , wet and under dressed.

Now I know why many sites claim the Flattop hike is a top 5 thing to do while in the Anchorage area. Great views of the inlet and Anchorage. There was a little more snow near the top than we expected, but we were able to summit without any issue. The trail near the top is narrow if you follow... More

Very easy access to Flattop from Anchorage. Can be a fun, slow paced hike or a challenging one if you want to rush to the top. Saddle is a good hike, but the scramble to the top isn't for everyone. Parking lot can get full during the summer, arrive early!

I am 59 years old and have twice climbed Flattop with my son (now 11). The first time was in May--and the snow still on the mountain made it treacherous. Nevertheless, I saw a young father and his six-year old son climb it with little difficulty. The view from the mountaintop, and even on the climb up, is spectacular. You... More

We took the windy drive up to the parking lot and did some walking around from there. The view was amazing - you can see the volcanoes in the distance and get some great shots of the downtown with the mountains in the background. The hike up was great and the views are even better. It's a great place to... More

Excellent view of Anchorage. You only pay for parking. I hike this trail several times a year and always see wildlife. It is a must for photographers. Bring plenty of water, food and medical emergency kit. There are benches to rest on at the first walking trail but not up on the higher trails.

Old and out of shape, I went with the 20-something ladies in my office after being challenged to climb to the top of Flattop.Truthfully, I doubted I could make it, but with the support and encouragement of my entourage (and a determined Pekinese with a different group) I made it. I thought I would die a few times. Discovered water... More
