I thought I was going to drive to Flattop and look at the beautiful views. Instead, it was a drive to the bottom of the mountain and a steep uphill climb of over an hour to get there. Climbing down was also difficult and tough on my knees. But it was worth it.

This is one of the most popular trails in Anchorage and I can see why. We went during a sunny afternoon and it was packed and took us a while to park (which cost $5). It is 1.7 miles to the top which seems easy but the incline especially towards the end makes it quite difficult. During the last bit... More

This is a hike with great views and it isn't all that difficult. If you don't feel like going up Flattop there are some other great trail options, including power line pass which actually uses the same parking lot as the Flattop hike.

A great place to see the longest day of the year. Beautiful view of the entire Anchorage and the ocean. Worth the visit for sure :)

if you are looking to see and take in the beauty of Anchorage then this is the hike top take. It's a bit of work but worth it. At the top you will be taken back by the 360 degree views. Plenty of rest stops along the way to catch your breath.

No trip to Anchorage is complete without a hike up flattop. I've gone twice with my children and both times they had no issues getting through the rocks and to the top. My only advice would be to be cautious coming back down as it is very slippery when wet. A good day hike for most.

A senior, adult and 3 year old hiked to trail during a very cold hike of under 40 degrees. the trail is well marked and easy for 2 people to walk side by side; we saw 2 moose close to the trail. this is always a great hike year round.

Flattop is the most hiked trail in Alaska so we had a lot of regulars breeze past us. Coming from Wisconsin, this was more than just a hiking trail. You're really climbing up a mountain! There was still a lot of snow and ice so in places it was a little treacherous. If you're there in the summer I'm sure... More

This hike is suitable for all types of adventurers. If you want a workout, this is great, as I go up this mountain 3-4 times each week. If you want to take it slow and easy, there are routes suitable for those with bad knees. This hikes gets very crowded on sunny days, so you can take one of the... More
