This is a great walk but it turns into rock climbing for the final push to the summit of Flat Top. The countryside is beautiful and the the scenery is quite stunning with a plethora of photographic opportunities. The path is not sealed and is dry gravel in places. The railway sleepers for parts of the walk are helpful but... More

The trail has great views of Anchorage and Cook Inlet but is not for the easy trail hiker. The truck takes some time and is uphill (up-mountain) most of the way. But you do not need to do the whole trail to see some great sights.

This is a great hike with nice views. Footing gets really tricky after first half. This trail needs a lot of maintenance. Stairs broken, big rocks on the main trail. This could really be a first class trail. What are they doing with all the $5 fees?

After reading several reviews of the trail up to Flattop Mountain we thought we were prepared for the hike. We could not have been more wrong. 3/4 of the trail is well marked and accessible by most hikers; however, the last 1/4 of the trail should have had the "Difficult" signage changed out with "Very Difficult." Not only will you... More

This was a fun hike with some rock scrambling towards the top. This is a very vigorous climb. Not to be taken lightly by showing up in flip flops.

It started off with gentle slope but progressed into rocky areas with steep stair climbing. It eventually became all rocky and very steep. I would recommend very good hiking shoes with good rubber bottoms. Take some water with you too. I took my camera and got some amazing shots,

We happened to visit on a clear, sunny day in July. Tremendous views of the city, valley, Cook Inlet, and mountains - including a rare, clear sighting of Mount McKinley (and nearby Four Acre Mountain). We happened to be with a family group that included young children, so did not try the toughest trails, but did get in a good... More
