The Alaska railroad is one of the best sites to see in Alaska. The clear glass roof with 360 view on the train makes for an adventurous non boring train ride, no matter how long. You can even go outside on the train if you need fresh air. Cocktails are served on the train, and there is a restaurant at... More

During a trip to Alaska a visit to the town of Talkeetna is a must stop to put on your agenda. It is a wonderful town and my husband and I spent three nights there. One of the most enjoyable attractions in Talkeetna is the Alaska Railroad Hurricane Gulch Turnaround Train! It leaves Talkeetna, travels to Hurricane Gulch and then... More

We took the train from Fairbanks to Anchorage on our way out of Alaska. It was well worth the 12 hours on the train especially since I am a railroad buff. Since I bought our tickets 6 months prior to our trip, my spouse and I had the first seats up in the vista dome car which gave us a... More

We rode the Alaska Railroad in May 2014 from Anchorage to Fairbanks breaking the trip up in Denali for a few nights. We chose Gold Star service which we we felt was worth paying extra for. The views from the higher domed carriages were exceptional and being able to to go and stand on the balcony was great! Service from... More

I am setting in the dining car writing this as our trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks comes to a close. I wouldn't have believed last years trip could have gotten any better, but I was wrong. The entire experience from booking to the trip was perfect. We had beautiful weather all days with clear skies and plenty on sunshine. The... More

Riding the Alaska Railroad is an adventure that shouldn't be missed!!! We took the train from Girdwood to Seward and went through areas and valleys that are only accessible by train. It was breathtaking scenery and the picture taking was a full time job. The service and staff on the train was outstanding and they even gave a narrative for... More

We used the train to get to Spencer Glacier for rafting. It was a cool experienced to be dropped off at a "whistle stop" station in the middle of nowhere and then wait for the train at the end of our rafting. We got to ride the train into Whittier too as part of the route. We'd love to go... More

Together with two friends we took the 6.00pm train to Anchorage and what a wonderful journey it was! We waited in the cosy, heated waiting room until we could board the train at 5.00pm and then braved the cold wind to board. We had decided to pay a little more for our tickets to get seats in the glass dome... More

It is hard to come to grasp with the vastness and complexity of Alaska without traveling on ground level. In Southeast Alaska, that meas the ferry system. Along the "Railbelt," that means either the road system or the railroad. Superlatives fail to describe the scenery the train passes through. Tunnels, mountain passes, glaciers, this railroad has it all. Just ignore... More

We decided to take our parents who were visiting on the scenic trip to Seward. I highly recommend getting the Goldstar seats, it is well worth the upgrade. With Goldstar seating, your roof is a big, see through dome which adds to your experience and you also get first dibs on going down to the dining area. We saw moose,... More
