My husband always wanted to go to DENALI ALASKA, so we decided to go for his birthday. We found out that we had to go in September, even though his birthday is in October, because the tours stop the last week of September. We flew into Anchorage and caught the train the next morning. We left on the train about... More

As an Alaskan resident, my family took advantage of the off season rates while taking a trip to Talkeetna. The age range of our group was from 1 to 80 years old. Everyone in the group loved the trip. Not only was there plenty to see, but there was also a full service menu to buy breakfast, lunch, or dinner... More

If you like rail travel and you're in to spectacular vistas, this is the trip for you! The Alaska Railroad offers a number of options- two of which I will cover here. 1. Fairbanks to Anchorage on the "Denali Star" (approximately 12 hours one-way) Personally, I enjoyed Fairbanks much more than Anchorage. It is smaller, more remote, and much more... More

My husband and I travelled from Anchorage to Seward via the Coastal Classic train with the Gold Star Service. I had booked the tickets online in early November for our voyage July 2. Little did I know by booking so early I was getting us seats 1 & 2 on the first car, great seats. We took a taxi from... More

We took the Wilderness Express from Denali to Anchorage. I was surprised at the excellent food that was prepared in the Dome cars. Choice of Alaskan food that was available, it was excellent. The views from the dome cars, you can not see from a car, breathtaking!!!

We split the trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks with a stay in Denali. The trip from Anchorage to Danali was fabulous, even in the rain. We sat in a dome car. The mountain views were spectacular. We saw moose beside the track. The train had an elevator up to the dome car which the staff were very willing to operate... More

After our first taste of Alaska via cruise ship a few years back, my wife and I were determined to see more of this indescribably beautiful state. One of my coworkers had lived in Alaska for several years, and her recommendation was all I needed for a train trip!.. We decided to fly from Knoxville, TN to Fairbanks on Monday,... More

The Alaska Railroad with its GoldStar Dome passenger service is a pictorially rewarding means to see and photograph Alaskan scenic landscapes and wildlife. As a photo enthusiast, twice I traveled via the Alaska RR GoldStar Dome service--first from Anchorage to Seward and the second time from Fairbanks to Denali. The service was truly first class from its upper dome level... More

I enjoyed the trip from Fairbanks to Talkeetna on a sunny late August day. It might have been different on a dull wet day. We traveled normal fare or 'Adventure Class' as they call it. In my opinion there is no need to spend any more as there are viewing cars available too at this price level. We brought a... More
