Description: The Airborne Museum, situated in the square of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, facing...
The Airborne Museum, situated in the square of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, facing the church where John Steele famously was caught, relates the heroic adventure of paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division. Through a spectacular museography, the Airborne Museum takes you through the D-Day alongside American paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division. From the invasion preparations in England through the battles for liberation, meet the Airborne troops and accompany them on their journey to Victory. Discover an exceptional collection of historic items, an authentic glider and a C-47 plane which was deployed in the D-Day parachute drop operations. A 20 minutes film shows life under German occupation and relates with deep emotion the Liberation of Sainte- Mere-Eglise and the Cotentin. In the brand new building « Operation Neptune », be prepared to parachute on the 6th of June 1944! Board a C-47 in England then land in the church square in Sainte-Mere-Eglise and take part in the following battles.

We ended a long day of touring D-Day sites at this museum. It was a GREAT way to end the day. The museum is divided into three sections: C47, gliders and the newest section, Neptune. There is a really good movie in the C47 section and some very interesting displays. The Neptune section was awesome! As you start through the... More

Third time visiting this museum and still enjoy it. The new Neptune area is very interesting by giving an idea of what it was like to jump out of an aircraft during the invasion. The exhibits are well presented and informative. Even my wife who is not into military history at all enjoys this museum. These paratroopers and glider troops... More

I'd seen a number of museums by the time I reached this one so I was quite blasé about the whole thing. But this one is really one of the best along the whole coast. I shan't go into too much detail as I don't want to spoil the surprise but, suffice it to say, this really is a must-see.... More

Best museum in my opinion that I've ever seen. The airplane bit is fantastic and gives you an idea of what it was like for those brave men

On a warm spring morning, this museum did a great job of time-traveling us back to the stormy night of the D-Day invasion. It is even more of a monument to the strong bonds that have developed between the people of this storybook French town and the GI's who paid such a heavy price for its liberation from the Nazis.... We visited the airborne museum on 17/04/2015. The visit is split into 3 main themes: Operation Neptune, the Waco gliders and the C-47. Operation Neptune was launched ahead of Operation Overlord by dropping a British paratrooper unit over Caen and 2 American units over the Cotentin as depicted in the longest day. The museum is a tribute to the 2... More

Top notch. I live close to the WWII museum in Nola which i love and i still think this museum is worth the visit. I loved seeing it from the perspective of the airborne. Pretty emotional and heartwarming. Normandy and this museum are a must see for all americans. My son (10) loved it.

Definitely one of the better museums in the area. The Neptune hall is a must, great use of diorama's and effects. Impeccable premises, light and modern buildings.
