An absolutely amazing and informative tour. Our guide, Leslie, was funny and energetic and really gave us our money's worth. The food was so good and fresh and the portions were substantial. Definitely worth a visit if you are going to Seattle.

Bill and the owner did a wonderful job accommodating a tour on Easter Sunday for a group of 13 folks. Bill was such a lovely tour guide that did a wonderful job of balancing guiding us as a group and going with the flow. We were all treated with such consideration and the whole group seemed to enjoy themselves. I had a lovely time and thank Bill so much for his work for us on this tour. I would strongly encourage going with Seattle food tours to learn history of Seattle, a bit about present Seattle, and taste delicious food in the process.

Thanks so much to Seattle Food Tours for a wonderful experience.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and the group was like you had met friends for drinks and food. We were given history and recommendations in the Seattle area. Our favorite restaurant for the food and hospitality was Brazino's. We would recommend this tour for a nice relaxing evening

We did the bell town tour last week and hoped it would as enjoyable as our previos tour. It was a disappointment. The guide was knowledgable, but had a hard time keeping the group together. We started off with a "weak" dish. Most of the foods were mediocre. The bar wasn't necessary. We may go back to the other tour company next time.

I had never been on a food tour before so I have to be honest when I say that I was not sure what we were expecting. I went with my two teenage children so keeping them interested was a concern in the back of my mind. The tour guide seemed new and inexperienced which was disappointing, but I was willing to look over this because I know that everyone has to start somewhere. The stores that were offering samples during the tour were most certainly delicious but I am here to give you a heads up about the serving size. They give you just enough to cover the top of a triscuit or fit inside one of those cough syrup cups. While this in itself is not that big of deal, we were under the impression from the website that we would be well satisfied with portions and maybe even be able to skip lunch due to the continuous nibbles. This is NOT the case, so bring along an extra snack or be prepared to get dinner or lunch right away because you will be hungry!
The only exception would be Vital Tea Leaf. We were offered at least 6 different small cups of tea here.
Also, we had been misinformed from our tour guide that we would get 10% off of our purchases if we went back to buy food from the stores if we mentioned we were on the tour. Well, according to the handful of retailers that we went back to visit after the tour was over, we were NOT given any discount to be on the tour. So find out all small print and disclaimers before you go back to shop.

Thank you for the feedback. We strive to exceed all our guests expectations. The most common complaint we've received over the years is the quantity of the food. I thought I solved this one last year, so surprised to see it crop up again. The concept of our tour is to allow guests to discover new places while learning all about the fabulous history and characters that make the Pike Place Market so unique. We use a variety of ways to help in the discovery process; the core being food samples. Here is a breakdown of our current offerings 1 oz Authentic Gelato Thin slices of cheese and salami by local artisan producers 1/2 a crumpet with organic honey and butter 5 oz of New England style clam chowder (very filling) 1 oz Wild Alaskan King Smoked Salmon Various Italian truffle tastings: Salt, oil, honey plus balsamic vinegar, pesto Slice of local fruit A taste off the menu at James Beard Award winning chef's restaurant paired with a 2 oz pour of local WINE! When you combine everything that you learn on the tour along with all the food and the good times you'll share, it's my biased opinion there really is no better tour value in Seattle. $39.00 + tax is a great deal. I say this not only as a business owner but as a fellow traveler. Respectfully, Michael Rogers Founder

I live just outside Seattle and had my sister visiting me from England, we decided to take this tour as it was her first visit and I might learn somethig new also. The tour guide was very wimpy, she did not have control of the group and her presentation was rather vague and patchy, The food we were served was just small samples, no more than they were offering to people passing on the street. We were told that at the end of our tour we would have a meal and a drink at the last stop. This turned out to be a small tea plate of dressed salad leaves and a couple of tiny scraps of chicken seved with a mouthfull of white wine. This tour is not cheap by any means and I expected a little more in both the quality of the guide and the offerings at each tasting. I would not recommend it to anyone. Get a good guide book and ask for samples at establishments you like the look of and you will save big bucks and enjoy food you actually want to eat.

Guides make the tour, if you don't get on with the guide then the tour is doomed. My apologies, this is the first time we've had a complaint about one of our guides. I appreciate the feedback. It'll help us with ongoing training. As far as your other complaints, I'd like to highlight what's included for $39.00 + tax. Local artisanal salami & cheese, authentic Italian gelato & English crumpet, award winning chowder, smoked salmon, truffle oil & salt tasting, seasonal fruit and a sit down sample off the menu at Tom Douglas's Seatown Restaurant. In addition to the tastings you get a guided experience covering the history of the Pike Place Market and the people who give it character and meaning. To put the price in perspective a 3 hour Seattle city tour costs around $50.00 + dollars and no food is included. This tour is designed to entertain and educate so you can get the most out of your limited time. We introduce you to our favorite places with hope you'll like them as much as we do and go back for the full experience. We use food to tell the story of the market because that's our passion. $39.00 is a great value when you combine food samples along with the entertainment and information.

I thought it would be focused primarily on the restaurants, chefs, and food. Instead the primary focus was on the history of Belltown, via the tour guide. The restaurants, aside from serving small slivers of food during this period between lunch and dinner, do not participate in the tour in any way.

We were served relatively small amounts of food: about 8 square inches of pita bread at Lolas (with a choice of 3 toppings), a "slider" from the Frontier room, a slice of NY style pizza from Via Tribunali, two pieces of sushi at Shiros, a single piece of plump raviolli at Branzino and 3-4 marshmallows with a chocolate sauce dip at the last restaurant (very non descript - don't remember the name). We did not go the Macrina Bakery or Local Vine that was listed on their web site. (This list of food would be a reasonable meal at a sit down dinner, but over 2.5 hours, and a lot of walking, its underwhelming.)

So if you are interested in a walking tour of Belltown and its history, and would like some very good small snacks along the way, this is a a good deal. If you are interested in learning about Belltown's food/restaurants/chefs I don't think this is a good choice (but to be fair I don't know if there are any alternatives that are better.)

KtdSeattle, Sorry to hear that we didn't meet your expectations, I'll address each complaint and explain why we operate the tour this way. History - we try to balance the tour between local history and visiting restaurants. We feel that sharing the neighborhood history gives the tour more meaning and perpesctive. That said we do spend 3/4 of the time discussing food related topics like our favorite places to eat, profiling each restaurant, and the composition of each dish. Regarding portion size, the price point is only $49.00 + tax and for that you experience bites from 6 different restaurants, a small glass of beer, a generous glass of wine, lots of information as well as the entertainment of the guide. The price of the food and wine alone would surpass $49.00. "The Restaurants do not participate in the tour in any way" when I lead tours we routinely interact with owners, and the chefs are present to answer any questions. The overall concept of the food tour is for us to share the story behind the restaurant and have our guests sample a bite of food while soaking up the ambiance. When the tour is over each guest should be comfortable returning to neighborhood and spending their hard earned money on a meal with confidence. We did time the tour in order to have access to choice restaurants some of which are not open to the public yet, so to state the "restaurants do not participate" is a not exactly the case. Our line-up has recently changed to focus entirely on 6 restaurants, the website has yet to be updated to reflect that change, I'll followed-up with the website adminstrator, as the changes were submitted weeks ago. I can honestly say that the majority of all our guests absoulutely love the tour as is, and I wouldn't change a thing based on this feedback. Not sure exactly what the expectations were but I'm disappointed we didn't exceed them. Respectfully, Michael Rogers Owner Seattle Food Tours LLC

I was expecting to have larger portions in individual serving dishes for each person and finished the tour very hungry. The tour started out at Local 360 and consisted of only two raw oysters per person. The second stop was at Rob Roy and was an alcoholic drink the bartender chose to serve to everyone. The third was at Shiro's and each person only could have two pieces of sushi: snapper and tuna. The fourth was at Branzino's where the meat eaters were served some pasta with pork shoulder that the people in my party enjoyed. For those who do not eat meat like myself, the vegetarian option was a linguine pasta with vegetables and no taste or sauce. Perhaps a light drizzle of olive oil, and very disappointing. This was the first food item besides the drink that was not shared with others. Last stop of the night was Spur, with a small individual serving of a pear sorbet with caramel served on crumbles. It was the best thing I ate all night, but I left the tour disappointed and very hungry. Save your money and go to one of these restaurants for a full meal.

Managing guests expectations is the biggest challenge I have as a owner, it's made especially difficult when a tour like this is so unique, I'm not aware of another food tour company in the U.S. offering an experience like this for only $59.00. This reviewers complaint about food portions is the number one complaint I address and while the vast majority of our guests find great value in the same experience, it's disappointing when anyone doesn't feel their expectations were met. The simple solution would be to increase the amount of food, but that would raise the price of the tour and because everyone expectations are different, I would not be surprised too still be responding to the same type complaints. One common thread I've noticed in reviews of this type is the reviewers never place any value on the intangibles. What is the value of discovery? What is the value of learning something new? What is the value of being able to experience 5 different restaurants in a little over two hours? Of having a host to share insight about the restaurants and neighborhood? That said, let me add up the retail value of what's served. - Two local oysters $2.50 each - Craft cocktail - $10.00 (listed as one of top 12 cocktail lounges in U.S. by Esquire Magazine) - Duo of sushi - $4.00 each (From Seattle's legendary Japanese culinary master Shiro.) - Parpadelle Bolgenese $21.00 & glass of wine $8 per glass - Dessert - $7.00 Total: $59.00 + 9.8% tax & 15% tip = $73.63 per person. We list all our restaurant partners on our website, I encourage anyone reading this to go check it out. In closing the reviewer says "Save your money and go to one of these restaurants for a full meal." but the irony is that if you didn't take the tour you wouldn't know which one was your favorite or you may not even know they existed. I bought this with some girlfriends as a great opportunity to catch up and try out some new restaurants. What a disapointment! And we only paid 1/2 price! I am newly pregnant and had talked the tour booker and he was delightful ensuring me that each stop would have some tasty. instead of oysters at Local 360 I could have the seafood chowder, I would have eel at the sushi restaurant rather since its cooled versus the raw fish. In reality I got blended asparagus at Local 360 which was horrible. Several of my girlfriends tried it and we all agreed that baby food we tasted at baby showers was better. I only got 3 small pieces of cucumber roll rather than eel at the sushi restaurant. How cheap is that?!? Branzino gave us the most food but even that was a small portion. I was with a gluten allergy friend and none of the restaurants had been told about this so she never had food ready at the stop, she was always waiting while everyone else ate. About the tour specifically: Our tour guide spoke so soft no one could understand her so she became more of a nuisance. We were so rushed at every location and ended up having to leave drinks and food because we were being so rushed. The real kicker, we ended almost an hour early so we were being rushed for nothing. We ended up going out for dinner after the tour. I agree with the other reviews, save your money and go for a real dinner somewhere.

High notes:Rob Roy was awesome and really sweet about making me a virgin muddled drink.
Branzinos had good food and the contact there was great about explaining all their food options.

Wow. 1 star review from a guest who paid 1/2 price can't do much worse then that. My apologies you had such a disappointing time. Our goal is to be the best food tour in Seattle. Being in the service industry we're committed to making sure everyone has a great time regardless of dietary restrictions. I'm 100% positive If the guest had communicated her dissatisfaction with any dish we could have relayed the message to the restaurant and found a dish more to her liking. Our restaurant partners have every incentive to make sure everyone's expectations are met, their goal is to entice all our guests to return for the full experience. That said, We leave the decision of what to serve to the chefs, and dishes change with the season. As far as your complaint about feeling rushed, the tour is 2.5 hours and we have 5 stops. I find it hard to believe the guide covered all 5 stops in 1.5 hours? Shiro's restaurant allows our tour groups in before they open to the public, so in exchange we agree to have our groups in at 5:00pm and out by 5:15pm. After that, the pace of the tour is based on the group, my tour groups have enjoyed multiple glasses of wine at Branzino. It's the guides responsibility to make sure things run smooth for both our guests and restaurant partners. We wouldn't have a tour if we didn't respect our partners requirements. In the reviewer's opening she stated that "I bought this with some girlfriends as a great opportunity to catch up and try out some new restaurants." She is right about that, It is a great format for hanging out with friends, making new friends and trying new restaurants. Unfortunately the reviewer didn't like her dishes, maybe things would have turned out differently had she been able to enjoy the oysters, cocktail & wine pairing. For those reading this review, please remember if you don't like your dish please let us know and we'll make an adjustment. Everyone's palate is different, many guests have commented on how much they enjoyed the asparagus soup. Respectfully, Michael Rogers Owner/Guide

We had family in town for a reunion and did this as a fun group event. Everyone loved it, including those of us from Seattle. The restaurants are fabulous - we learned about some new ones and really enjoyed Rob Roy's. We will be doing it again with friends.
