Young vibrant area - nice green market

Find the secret Troll. Then head over to Stoups for some great Micro Brews, however they don't have any food.

This neighborhood has been going through a massive growth spurt with literally thousands of new apartments and condos going up which has brought a new renaissance in the culinary arts. The negative is the population explosion is going to make traffic and sadly crime become major problems. For now, it is one of my favorite places to visit, especially to... More

I have to say that our view of the Ballard District evolved after we arrived. Driving in past the food bank and a host of scruffy characters had us worrying about our safety. But after walking along Ballard Ave with its mix of retail stores, restaurants, cafes and clubs, things seemed a bit better. After a visit to a diner... More

We had a coffee for breakfast along the cute little old part of Ballard and then headed to the park and locks. I must admit to a nerdy fascination with locks and these are especially interesting due to the variety of vessels going through, The museum has a good explanation of how the locks and canal were built, how other... We stayed at the Ballard Inn which was exactly where the Farmer's Market was. So spent a lot of time walking the market and the stores nearby. Ate at High Life restaurant which was very busy, great menu, good service, reasonable prices. Also bought two delicious cup cakes at Cupcake Bakery. Didn't get down to the Ballard Locks but it... I loved this community so much that I opened a store here just to experience it, I moved away to LA and was so enamored I had to move back to Seattle and settle myself in Ballard. The area itself is amazing, great shops, amazing food but it has this blue collar roots that makes Ballard unique. It sits on... More

Cities all over the country try to create neighborhoods with the same character and charm as Ballard, but very few achieve the variety of independent stores, leading restaurants and quirky local businesses as you'll find here. Ballard stands out for its sense of community, historic architecture, and location in what is still a working waterfront. From the beach at Golden... More

With the addition of the lovely Hotel Ballard, this neighborhood has everything you need for a perfect stay in Seattle. World-class restaurants, the Ballard Sunday market, the Hiram Chittendon Locks, dozens of amazing boutiques, coffee shops, brew-pubs, the Burke-Gillman Trail, Golden Gardens Beach, the Nordic Heritage Museum and Shilshole Marina mean you could spend a week exploring just this neighborhood... When I was scouting out a place to stay in Seattle during our way back to Portland from Victoria over Canada Day weekend, my daughter said she would like to stay in either the Ballard neighborhood or in Capitol Hill. After looking over the hotels, B & B's and restaurants in each we settled on the Ballard District. We reserved... More
