As you roam the subterranean passages that once were the main roadways and first-floor storefronts of old downtown Seattle, our guides regale you with the stories our pioneers didn’t want you to hear. It’s history with a twist! The tour begins inside Doc Maynard’s Public House, a restored 1890s saloon. Following a short intro, we’ll walk through historic Pioneer Square to three different sections of Underground—about three blocks in all... « less

If you're a history buff, you'll find this tour interesting. You'll learn a lot about the haphazard formation and growth of the city both above and below the streets. The underground portion is unusual. When you're done, you'll exit through the gift shop. I bought Speidel's book, "The Sons of the Profits." It's style is a chronological compendium of facts... More

I think the thing that made this tour a winner was our guide. He was funny and knowledgeable and made a history lesson seem interesting. Learned a lot about Seattle history. Got to descend underneath Pioneer Square and see some cool stuff. Good for parents and teens. Prior to the tour, you meet in a saloon. After the tour, you... More

This was well worth the cost - a really interesting description of Seattle's early history with a fascinating tour of the original street level. Our guide was excellent - and even with the large number of people in the group we felt thoroughly engaged. It didn't feel too sanitised - some of the basements were pretty grubby and rough, but... My husband and I weren't sure to expect with this tour, all we were told was that "You should go on the Underground Tour" from about 5 of our friends. It was SO worth it! We had a great guide, and it was so fascinating to hear about the stories of the underground city of Seattle a hundred years ago.... More

While we knew we'd learn a little about Seattle's early days, we didn't know how much information would be presented in a light, though informative way. We got some laughs during the tour and later realized we'd absorbed a lot of information. One member of our party wasn't sure what I was getting her into and she ended up very... More

This was our third time taking the tour as we think it's a great way to introduce our friends to the history of Seattle. Unfortunately our experience on July 21st was less than satisfactory. The group was large and our female leader's voice could not be heard. When we were underground she spent more time in theatrics than on history.... More

Totally recommend taking this tour. It's a lot of fun and super interesting. The tour guides are funny and knowledgeable. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and watch your step and your head. Learn a lot about Seattle's history.

We decided at the last minute to take the tour. There was a long line but all were accommodated. The initial lecture began in the bar next to the ticket office. It appeared that the tour would have way too many people to be good, but we broke off into four groups and it made it much more manageable. After... More

I've lived near Seattle most of my life, allowing me to enjoy this tour numerous times while showing out-of-towners around. It's always fantastic! The staff are entertaining, knowledgeable, and full of stories - never a dull moment! If you have dust allergies, be warned. I don't and still couldn't stop coughing on one of my visits, until a friendly stranger... More

The underground experience was interesting and very informative. A very unique experience that really gives you a sense of what Seattle was like and how it evolved. Very fascinating.
