As you roam the subterranean passages that once were the main roadways and first-floor storefronts of old downtown Seattle, our guides regale you with the stories our pioneers didn’t want you to hear. It’s history with a twist! The tour begins inside Doc Maynard’s Public House, a restored 1890s saloon. Following a short intro, we’ll walk through historic Pioneer Square to three different sections of Underground—about three blocks in all... « less

We learned that part of seattle had originally been built on wetlands, which flooded as the tide came in. Eventually, after the great fire of 1889, they had to rebuild much of the city, and raised the level of the streets, leaving a series of underground walkways that people continued to use. Now some pieces are privately owned, by the... More

The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the colourful history of Seattle, providing an appropriate amount of information to keep the tour interesting without overdoing it. On my next visit I intend on taking the longer, adults-only companion tour, which gets even further into the 'colourful' history of Seattle.

If you enjoy underground American history and fancy storytelling, this is a fun and very interesting tour of the settlement of Seattle. You'll discover the introduction of the Crapper family and the impact they (he) left on our society. Tweens / some teens may not get the desired impact and relevance, but definitely fun for the whole family and guest... More

The underground location itself was just okay, nothing much to look at, mainly rubble and junk with lots of stairs, and of course hot and musty. However, the tour was made enjoyable because of the very personable and entertaining guide (Patty I think). Lots of background information and funny side stories which thankfully made for a good experience. One complaint... More

I am an almost life long resident of Seattle, and it took having out of town guest to finally make me go - shame on me! But having redeemed myself somewhat, I still need to pass on the word that this is not to be missed, whether you're here for a few days or a lifetime. Get to know the... More

This is a most entertaining and interesting way to learn a great deal of Seattle's history. It will certainly stick with you a lot longer that if you heard it a part of the commentary on a tour bus. When that history is combined with a walk through the city under the city, it makes it even better. The fun... More

We did not take the Underground Tour with this company, but rather with another one due to wanting a much smaller group...BUT we chose the Sub Seattle Tour because it is in a bus and goes to the different neighborhoods around Seattle, telling unique stories and giving you a better idea about the area outside downtown. I will say that... More

Did it yesterday and had a blast. Very informative and funny. Before I knew very little about Seattle, now I know a hole lot more and I enjoyed it. Highly recommend.

Bill Speidel found a great opportunity way back in the 70's and continues to take full advantage of it. The tour is worth the price of admission just because of the tour guides. You will learn a lot on how Seattle started, got its name and the sewage situation back then. Eventually you head down into the underground and tour... More

The 15-minute introduction gives you a brief history of how Seattle was founded. The presentation is laced with humor, as was the entire tour. Guides are well-informed and make the tour fun. It is interesting to see the underground structures. There is a nice place to grab a snack or beverage while waiting for the tour to start. The tour... More
