Though there is a grain of truth in some reviews posted here regarding the slightly excessive length of the tour, the overall experience is a real Klondike essence: tiring but rewarding. The tour consists of quite a few diverse activities: 1) The solid American-Alaskan lunch. The self-help choices include ribs, chicken, fried and baked salmon, potatoes, both mashed and fried,... Coming here, you get the impression the only reason this place continues to exist is for cruise passengers to be mildly entertained and they are not at all dependent on repeat customers. For $40 each, there are three "experiences" available with a micro discount to try them all. The cheapest possible experience at $5 is to watch a DVD on... More

We booked the complete Klondike Gold Fields "Big Nugget" tour through our cruise company. The guide met us right at the end of the pier and we were transported through town on a nice bus. This was our guide's second summer in Skagway and her knowledge of the area was still lacking a bit. That said, we arrived and went... More

We had pre-purchased this tour from the cruise ship. We were able to board a bus, right at the pier and were taken almost immediately for the very short ride to the tour. We had a tour guide on board that was very knowledgeable about the area. We were taught how to pan for gold and then we had the... More

Our visit to the Gold Dredge tour was part of our Yukon White Pass train excursion. It was fun panning for real gold, which they weigh afterwards. Gives you a small taste of what it was like to search for those little specs of gold in pans with dreams of striking it rich during the gold rush.

We purchased this experience through our cruise ship. We waited for our bus in the cold wind for more about 40 minutes, don't know who's to blame for that. We then waited some more at the site for other busses to arrive. There were 3 cruise ships in town that day. I traveled with teenage boys who enjoyed the day.... More

My mother, girlfriend, niece, and I stopped at the Klondike Gold Fields as part of shore excursion SGY-250 Rail, Summit, Gold Panning & Gourmet Lunch from the Sapphire Princess. This was our first stop of the day. Later we took a fantastic ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway and had a terrible lunch at Olivia’s Restaurant in... More

My daughter and I had some extra time in Skagway and decided to do the Gold Dredge and Panning tour. It was late in the day and the facility stayed open for us to visit. The workers were very helpful when teaching us to pan for gold. It was interesting to learn about the Klondike gold rush. Everyone was very... More

Was very impressed with this visit. We planned this because we love dogs and wanted to experience a true part of alaska. The staff was great and enjoyed the period costumes .

This was an amazing tour! Learning about the Klondike experience and seeing a once operational dredge was really interesting. Panning for gold was unlike anything I've ever done. Surreal Experience, PS very cute sled dogs!
