To be honest this, at first sight, appears to be a typical Alaskan cruise ship stopping place and there are shops galore for those intent on retail therapy. It is, however, neater and cleaner than some and the history of the town far more interesting than many others along the Inside Passage. One shop worth a visit and a chat... More

This was out last stop on our Inside Passage cruise. It was nice strolling the shops - we didn't find any bargains but and the trinkets were the same as we found in Juneau and Ketchikan, but the folks were nice and the weather was spectacular!

Skagway is not worth the visit IMHO. Go on a tour or rest. It just had nothing to offer that I wanted to see. It's like a phony mall made to look like a town. but the Red Onion Saloon didn't have the charm I was seeking. You can stretch your legs there, So I don't get the 5 star... More

Skagway is really a cruise ship town-they board up the main street in winter and only a few local hardy souls remain. It is fun to do the drive from Whitehorse as the scenery is wonderful any time of year. They have done a nice job of making State and Broadway attractive and it is interesting to watch life go... This town is buzzying, the boardwalk around the bay is lovely, the people are all so helpful with none of the usual pressures you can get in Tourist destinations

We visited this town on a cruise in June, 2012. Yes, it is a cruise tourist town, but if you look past that you will find the charm and oodles of activities and attractions to keep you more than busy. The towns buildings and homes are very interesting and steeped in history. We were in this town from 7am to... More

Although the town is a tourist town full of shops, you don't have to go shopping to enjoy it. The town is full of late 1890 buildings which are fun to just look at from the street. You can print off a self guided walking map at skagway.com. We just did the in-town tour as we were going to ride... More

It's was one of my favorite stops on the Alaskan cruise. It is small enough to explore and still have time for a tour. It is clean and picturesque. Even though it is mainly jewelry shops and T-shirt stores, (as is every stop on the cruise) there are still a couple of locally owned spots to spend your money and... More

Stopped here on our Princess Cruise. This town was so small and had so many people from cruise ships that you could not see to much. Small just about sums it up.

Plenty of shops and "waterholes" to visit and explore. Everything is within walking distance and it's where everyone hangs out.
