We are in the process of visiting every South Carolina state park (the "Ultimate Outsider" challenge) and this one came up last weekend. It is a little ways down the road from the similarly-named Kings Mountain National Battlefield, so I bet a lot of people never get past that federal site and make it to this park. And that's a... We came here for the first day hike, by way of Crowders Mountain Park in North Carolina. Crowders, this park, and the Kings Mountain National Battlefield are all connected via a system of very nice trails. This park has a great deal to offer, but our time was limited as was the availability on January 1. We did see swimming... More

Loved the camp ground, went in Dec and we used a tent so we almost got the run of the entire place. Everything was nice except the fact all the bath houses was closed except the one furtherest away from out camp site. When making reservations it would have been nice to have known this since we picked a camp... More

We camped here Thanksgiving weekend on site 44. We were with 2 other families that had the sites on both sides. This site has no privacy as site 45 is fairly close and looks right towards your camper door on 44. Since my sister was in 45, it wasn't an issue for us. This site is very close to the... More

When asked if the main trail crosses much water, the ranger quickly and freely admitted that he had never been on the main long loop trail and isn't into hiking, so he couldn't answer any questions about anything at all. The trails were not especially well marked, and the trail markers completely dropped you at the horse area with no... More

It has come to my attention several times in the last few years that a lot of folks think that the SC State Park System SUPPLIES campers with part of the candy they give out. The Kings Mountain State Park has NEVER contributed any candy to the campers. THE PEOPLE CAMPING AT THE PARK SUPPLY ALL OF THEIR OWN CANDY... More

Plenty of wooded water & electric sites although some can be tricky to get larger rigs into. We often go to Kings Mountain for the many hiking trails that are available. There is a federal park adjacent to the state park where you can walk the battlefield and learn about the battle of Kings Mountain. You can't beat the price... More

The park was very empty. That made it good for us. The campsites have no privacy. If it was busy it would be uncomfortable. The bathroom facilities were large enough for more campers but they were not being cleaned. The bugs, spiders and stray pieces of litter made them look dirty. Many of the campsites are not very level. We... More

My husband and I stopped here on our way to the nearby outlets in Gaffney SC. We knew we'd need a place to stretch our legs and just get out of the car for a bit. I agree with some other reviewers who complained about poor signage. We received a map and some directions from a friendly employee at the... More
