The water at Kua Bay is unbelievable! I had to keep asking myself if I was dreaming! The beach is nice but you need to bring your own shade. The water was pretty calm and kid friendly. I wish we would have known about Kua Bay at the beginning of our trip so we could have spent more days there.... More

Why is it you always find the best of your trip on the last day??? This little beach was absolutely stunning! A pristine white sand beach flanked by black lava rock on both sides with easy surf. We found a beautiful coral reef around the corner to the right where we found a turtle grazing and bright fish and even... More

First the bad news - there was a shark attack here in the last year. Parking often makes for a long hike. Rugged lava rocks can make the trip down to the beach treacherous. Beach and water can get clogged with people. Undertow can smack you down and hold you (this happened to me). Having said all that, I adore... More

Pretty perfect! Sandy, clear water, quick access, a variety of blue colors, not crowded...just lovely. I think every Kona visitor should get to this beach!

Manini'owali Beach is a short trek north of the Kona airport, and just past another State Park entrance and it's another no-fee beach park. It's a great spot any time of the day, but I especially recommend stopping an hour or two before sunset and hanging out in the surf while you wait for the sun to go down. The... More

This was an amazing beach. Really pretty, small and not very busy. The swimming is not as good as Hapuna Beach though since there are more rocks and there is no lifeguard. Also, be prepared for a bit of an adventure driving in. The road is very unimproved so it's really best to have a 4x4 although cars do it... More

First this beach may be closed on Wednesday. The beach is very beautiful. Soft white sand with lots of black lava rock around for contrast. You may have to park up the hill quite a bit if you arrive late morning or early afternoon. In the summer months the waves are pretty gentle and great for body boarding. In the... More

another great beach to take in amazing blue waters. Kids loved this beach. They spent some time here snorkeling. They want to go back.

Kua Bay is hands down the best beach on the Big Island. The black rocks, white sand, turquoise water and humpback whales splashing around off shore (winter). It really can't get any better than that.

This beach was the favorite for the kids. The snorkelling wasn't great (low visibility) but did see a few turtles swimming and on the rocks resting.
