We went to this beach twice on our 2 week trip to the Big Island in December. We were blown away by the beautiful clear turquoise waters and amazingly soft white sand. One day we went and the waters were very tranquil/calm, the other day it was higher surf but great for boogie boarding. Pro tip: to everyone who has... More

Our family had lots of fun playing in the surf with the boogie board. The waves got a little crazy and my last time in the water, I was completely swept off my feet and turned upside down! After that I just watched. The water is warm and the sand feels like sugar. When the waves get bigger, it really... More

Kua Bay was great for boogie boarding - but watch out for rocks! We were there on Christmas Day - and it was very crowded. Parking is limited, and it's a bit of a walk from the road. Definitely worth visiting!

The white sand and turquoise water are superb... Come at 8-9 am, by noon it gets crowded. When the sea is not very calm, the waves can be really strong.

Great little beach near Kona with fine white sand and decent swimming for all ages. They had some bigger waves roll in too, so keep your head on a swivel. Beach has showers, bathrooms, and a little bit of shade, but not much. Busy but not crowded. Not for snorkeling (at least not in winter when we were there).

Gorgeous white sand beach. To get there takes your through a cooled lava rock field, so take a rental and drive carefully. It takes a bit of time to drive down there but your patience will be rewarded to a relatively secluded white sand beach. I think I saw a total of 10 people at the place we were at.... More

We were looking for a beach close to Kailua-Kona, where we were staying for the week. We were mailing packages home in the morning and I thought to ask the postal clerk for her favorite beach. She directed us to Kua Bay, just north of the Kona Airport! It was a great beach for our "adult party" of 4. Plenty... More

Great white sand beach with very fine sand (which gets everywhere by the way). Rolling surf can be hazardous during winter months so be careful and respect the waves, they are unforgiving. Easy to get to, lots of parking but fills up well by noonish even on a weekday. Outdoor shower is nice to wash the sand and salt off... More

An absolutely amazing beach the sand is white with black flakes in it. The water is turquoise and the waves were very big and a blast to play in
