We had been advised to go to a luau during our Hawaiian holiday and chose the Royal Kona as it was next door to where we were staying. When we originally booked we were told the price was $88 per person which I thought was a bit high but as it was going to be a unique experience I thought... More

Lovely hotel with a large pool and slide overlooking the ocean. Enjoyed dining in the restaurants there and watching the Manta Rays being fed at night. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Loved the open concept of the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to the Big Island.

I read A LOT of reviews before choosing a luau for the Big Island. My husband and I ended up going to the free Luau near the Mauna Lani Resort in the shopping center (I don't remember what it's called) and we were so impressed with it that we wanted to see more and chose the Royal Kona Resort Luau.... My family went to Royal Kona Luau as I thought it was a good price and the pictures on their web were very nice. I got disappointed as the area was very small and all activities were very cramped together. The Mai tai was very water down, the wine was a low quality , at least the beer was reasonable... More

Was a little skeptical about attending a luau but so glad we did. Such a fun, lively atmosphere. After hearing about other luau's and how you don't go for the food I was pleasantly surprised as to how tasty it was. Dancers, musicians and host were all great.

This review must be in two parts - the entertainment was excellent and full credit to the luau performers who were wonderful. The hotel/hospitality side was dreadful. We queued for 45 mins in the heat in an achingly slow line to get into an event that was pre-booked, pre-paid and ticketed. The delay was due to a last-minute push by... More

We went to the Royal Kona Luau on 4/7/2015 (less people and discount prices on a Tuesday) with our Son's family. We've been to 2 different Luau's on the Big Island over the last 15 years and reading some of the reviews on this web site I'm curious as to what people think they are going to get for the... More

This is a tacky luau which I call "The Plastic Luau." The table cloths, chairs, plates were all made of plastic. The food also tasted like plastic- insipid and unappetizing. Overall, it had a tacky feel though the performance was good.

The mai-tai's are good but you can get them in other places. I really thought this Luau was disrespectful to Polynesian culture and I wasn't alone as my Mom hated it too. It was big and crowded--fairly well organized but just not a good experience. The MC spent more time trying to be funny rather than educational and it left... More
