There is a rather rough road to get there and if you've never been on a 4 wheel drive road before I don't suggest you take a 2 wheel drive car on it. Once you get to the parking lot you have to hike past a beach and over crumbled lava rock. Our local friends and we agree the hike... More

It's worth the bumpy ride in on the graded gravel road to spend a day at this postcard perfect tropical beach. Popluar with paddlers and surfers when the southwest swell is up.

Took the whole day to make the trip and truely site see and learn. You can not go wrong. We drove ourselves and did not purchase tour package but there is plenty of information available.

Hard to get to and maybe not worth it. The few beaches before it are just as pretty and not as much of a trek.

Being our first time to the Big Island I had researched all of the beaches near Kona, and this one seemed like the hardest to get to, but also the most secluded. Boy, was I right! The 2 mile drive off Hwy 19 is no joy ride. Very bumpy, very slow, and downright ugly at times. Our group of 8... More

This is a beautiful place and I can only plead with the state to keep it as is, and to never permit development here. It is so special to have a beautiful place that you can't just drive to the doorstep, where there aren't busloads of tourists, and where your photos aren't spoiled by ugly hotels or condos. When I... The best way to visit this beach is to hike in from State Beach (one with the abandoned red house) since you hve to be half crazy to try to drive in on what some call a road. Park at State Beach and start walking north on the gravel road for about a half hour. Awesome beach!

this beach is well worth the trip.. be careful with your rental car here..the road is a little bit tricky..Make sure your tires are in good shape..seriously...you people with jeeps you should come in on the upper road the locals use its there just find it...otherwise be prepared to hike..not for the weak or fragile..It will take you about 20... awesome beaches. 7 coves, of white sand. The best beach on the big island. But the question is to walk in or ride the bumpy road. I love the walk in. But it is long, Good shoes are a must. You won't be disapointed.
