Unfortunately, the opening hours are 10am-3.30pm (I think), so all I got to see was the front door when I turned up at KOA at 4pm for my flight, planning to kill a bit of time in there :-( If you plan on going, check the opening times!

We arrived early for our return flight and just had to stop in.....Wonderful interactive attraction that provided a wealth of information. There were many activities to keep children of all ages occupied so the adults could take time to read and view all of the information about Ellison Onizuka. Such a tragedy to have his life cut short, but this... More

We travelled back to the airport to see a bit of space history. The white building between the terminals is the one. The lady wasn't friendly, and they didn't turn on the movie screen. Many attractions weren't working. There were a hundred "games and activities" to do though, as in - store bought games. A 20 month old was kept... More

Very knowledgeable staff set up several telescopes to show planets, star clusters and nebulae, depending on what can be seen that night. Also use a laser pointer to give a "star tour" and will patiently answer any questions. They have a microwave and hot water available so you can purchase hot chocolate, ramen noodles, etc. to help combat the chill.... More

This museum had a wealth of information for the whole family. My children were so well entertained with all the hands-on interactive exhibits. I was able to read all the information I wanted to without the children disrupting me because they were so well occupied with their own interaction. The admission fee is family friendly. We spent well over an... More

The Onizuka Space Center is one of the best museums I have been in considering it's size! It is located at the Kona International Airport between United and Hawaiian Air,and is very easy to miss if you have evening flights. The hours are 8:30a.m.-4:30pm and cost is $3.00. The museum is dedicated to Col.Ellison Onizuka, who perished on his second mission... More

I was actually at the Onizuka Space Center (coincidentally) the day that the shuttle Columbia broke up in the atmosphere in February of 2003. This is a good place to kill some time at the Kona airport, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way just to visit. If you have any interest in the US space program, it... More
