Description: Since the day the Big Island Country Club opened to rave reviews in 1997...
Since the day the Big Island Country Club opened to rave reviews in 1997, it has been on the "must play" list of the golfing visitor to Hawaii's Big Island. That's not only because of its spectacular location and scenic beauty, but equally because of its well-deserved reputation as a course that welcomes both the novice player as well as the low-handicap expert. The course is simultaneously enjoyable yet challenging, and is designed for every level of playing ability. Designed by famed golf course architect Perry Dye, son of Pete Dye, the par 72 course has all the popular attributes and interesting features that make his layouts so popular to golfers of varying skills: wide, gently rolling bermuda grass fairways, medium-size undulating Bent grass greens, and an abundance of water.

I have played the Big Island Country Club many times. Made an afternoon tee time to get a cheaper rate. The pro shop staff behind the counter, a woman, was not very friendly or welcoming. We had to say hello first and while she said hello back, it seemed a little forced. She said her computer was down and did... More

The female at the desk is awful / the trailers used for facilities match the desk person but the course has great potential when they fix the chewed up greens . Expect rain and cool weather then try again in a couple of years .

Big Island Golf club is situated north of Kailua Kona away from the coastline along the 190 hwy...known as the Hawaii Belt Hwy. Due probably to the location, the fees are more reasonable...$80...and frankly, the course of the 4 golf courses the crew I was with, played and enjoyed the most. It doesn't have the fancy pants club house, and... More

I am a private club player so recognize the lens from which I view things. Entertaining holes with decent bent grass greens that hold in upland forest with nifty wildlife-- lambs, ewes and rams, tropical birds of color. Tad rough around the edges and thin lies in spots. If you played here five years ago it is much improved although... More

The golf course is well maintained, challenging for most levels of golfers. We liked it. It was not crowded and the pace of play was just right

thanks to the fact the Kona Country Club Golf Course has been closed for two years, we have had to explore and find new places to golf. Lucky for us we discovered the Big Island Country Club. What a fun golf course. It is grassy, interesting, challenging but not too hard for beginners, beautiful and more. The weather is cooler... More

We played Big Island Country Club hoping that the views had not been retouched on the website--and we found they were even better than expected! Staff was helpful and courteous, even waiting for us to return although we were the last off the course enjoying the views. We played here several times and found it to be uncrowded--they don't book... More

It can be hard to find inexpensive good golf in Hawaii. This track is a great place to play for the price. The scenery was wonderful. Tons of gold finch all around. They also goats and sheep, but they keep to themselves and don't smell.

A slight drive for a great course, but non-locals get to see the upper road for wonderful scenic views and hopefully a goat spotting!! Affordable by Big Island standards.
