Description: Since the day the Big Island Country Club opened to rave reviews in 1997...
Since the day the Big Island Country Club opened to rave reviews in 1997, it has been on the "must play" list of the golfing visitor to Hawaii's Big Island. That's not only because of its spectacular location and scenic beauty, but equally because of its well-deserved reputation as a course that welcomes both the novice player as well as the low-handicap expert. The course is simultaneously enjoyable yet challenging, and is designed for every level of playing ability. Designed by famed golf course architect Perry Dye, son of Pete Dye, the par 72 course has all the popular attributes and interesting features that make his layouts so popular to golfers of varying skills: wide, gently rolling bermuda grass fairways, medium-size undulating Bent grass greens, and an abundance of water.

This is a beautiful course that is well maintained and easy to return to. When I booked the T time, after I explained that my wife had recently taken up the game, she was happy to have us play as a twosome (that lowered the stress). So accommodating! We were greeted with a smile and everyone we spoke to were... More

Excellent course for value. Rates were $55/person plus $4.80 for a bucket of balls for driving range. Pretty and challenging course and nicely cooler than down by the coast. Played with two young local men who said this was their favorite course. We played mid week and had no issues with playing time, not rushed or held up.

This golf course is located higher up in elevation, which makes the game more enjoyable in a cooler environment. While the course is in the uplands, it is not on a steep slope. The course is beautiful and located on the sunny, Kona side of Hawaii island but not one of the exhorbitantly expensive resort courses. There are nice views... More

The course looks way easier than it is, there are turkeys and sheep wandering around and the clubhouse is effectively a big tent. It's the complete antithesis to the pretentious country club you find elsewhere. The guy who deals with the buggies is possibly the happiest man on the planet. Overall it's a bit mental but fantastic for all that.

My favorite course on the island for the money. No frills. No restaurant or bar, but they sell beer and sandwiches in the pro shop and a beverage cart is always around. Don't get cocky early the island 17th par three and the challenging par 4 18th are waiting for you. Lots of interesting local wildlife yo enjoy as you... More

The Big Island Country Club is not a country club yet for there is not a club house with all those amenities but the course is still interesting. The reception was fantastic and the fellows greeting you were very upbeat and more than eager to help. The hut offered sandwiches and drinks so you would not go hungry or thirsty.... More

Beautiful golf course in excellent shape. Greater room for errant shots as compared to Makalei. Greens were "patchy" in places but had little effect on putts. Good price. Rental clubs were Titleist 909D2. Scotty Cameron putter........really? I putted so well I wanted the putter. Pace of play was fast until I caught up to several groups of foursomes and it... More

I have played the Big Island Country Club many times. Made an afternoon tee time to get a cheaper rate. The pro shop staff behind the counter, a woman, was not very friendly or welcoming. We had to say hello first and while she said hello back, it seemed a little forced. She said her computer was down and did... More

The female at the desk is awful / the trailers used for facilities match the desk person but the course has great potential when they fix the chewed up greens . Expect rain and cool weather then try again in a couple of years .

Big Island Golf club is situated north of Kailua Kona away from the coastline along the 190 hwy...known as the Hawaii Belt Hwy. Due probably to the location, the fees are more reasonable...$80...and frankly, the course of the 4 golf courses the crew I was with, played and enjoyed the most. It doesn't have the fancy pants club house, and... More
