This area has the Atlantis submarine . We took the submarine and it was great. The kona beach was small but the views are spectacular. It has one of the bluest waters. The landscape is great and it has lot of shops to buy souveniers and food. Overall an amzing experinece

If you are looking for a beach, look elsewhere. This is a tourist area with shops and hotels and food. There are 2-3 areas of sand but usually crowded and it doesn't really feel beach like. The good part is, it is very close to everything and any place for a hotel in Kailua-Kona. Also if you enjoy the Iron... More

We were staying at the hotel which is right on the pier. We rated this a bit higher than others may due to the fact that it is the swim start location for the Ironman world championship. If you open water swim from here, there are buoys marked clearly with swim distances. Not much else to do here but it... More

I am security conscious because I have traveled the world for 30 years and lived (as Govt Employee) in Asia for one year and Middle East for five years. I stayed at a local hotel for four nights. On the first evening at nightfall we decided to stroll along Kona's main street to have dinner. We were accosted by a... More

We so appreciated having the pier to watch the start of the Ironman Triathlon. It gave us the perfect viewing place after volunteering at body marking. Also, rented a kayak at King Kam and paddled around the pier.

Small pier next to King Kam Hotel (Marriott Courtyard status). This is where passengers embark, and disembark the tourist ships. Small beach adjacent. We like to eat lunch at the King Kamehameha swim pool restaurant next door.

We happened to arrive during the week when the Ironman Triathletes were prepping for the event to be held that Saturday. Town was VERY busy and crowded and hot and humid. There is some shopping nearby and places to cool your thirst.

We were on the Pride of America last week and of the 5 ports we visited, Kona was our favorite. It is quaint, beautiful, has coffee, good water sports, ... The rest of out ports were Matson Lines freight ports and not picturesque at all. Kona is nice, maybe because you have to anchor out and tender in.
