We took a walk along the bay up to the pier where the tourist boats dock to ply their trade for day trips and the like, or to transfer them from the ships in the bay. Locals fish of the side, much like any other pier.

We walked through Kona town to this pier and took some photos and enjoyed the scene. This is the location for the evening luau with a pig roast, music, dancing and traditional entertainment. Check out the plaques that describe Hawaiian history and the kings who ruled here. There is more to see in the nearby hotel lobby with its artwork.

I love people watching at the pier. You see both locals and tourist, rich and poor. Lots of athletes come past on bikes or running. The locals like to fish here too.

The runners, biker, swimmers all pass this pivot point. Don't miss it so when you watch the race on TV you have bragging rights..."I was there" good people watching and views of major sights in town.

A relatively quiet, nice walk by the beachside during mornings. The area is littered with little souvenir shops and restaurants.

Good quick walk to see Kona from a different angle. Good little swim beach beside pier. Access to shopping and food.

Wandered out to see what the locals were catching, neat to see the wide variety of fish they were trying for at such a public place. Saw varieties I had not even seen at some good snorkelling spots. Wished I had a rod and a few hours!!

The pier has little to no parking. Taxi Cabs take up most the parking. Usually have to park in restaraunt parking lots. Kona Boys rents Kayaks and SUPS right at the beach/water. You can also rent jetski's and board the Snorkel Boats there.

I was on Pride of America; we had to get tendered in - it's a small pier at the center of the front of Kona - not much that I could see on the pier but everything is withing walking distance - there's a beach next to it where people were paddle-boarding, and many shops, galleries, restaurants and bars spitting... Pier provides a nice view of Kailua Bay. It is used during the Ironman Triathlon World Championships w the finish line marker just off the pier on Alii Drive. A number of fishing or snorkeling vessels use the pier as well as the Cruise ships that arrive on most Wednesdays as I understand.
