We have twin 9 year olds who have had outstanding surf lessons with Jacob and in the past with other instructors. Instructors have great positive energy and also think safety first. A true 5 star rating. Thank you HLSI!

My 3 children (14, 12 and 10) and my wife had their first time experience surfing and it was an excellent experience...all the thanks go to the talented instructors of "Hawaii Lifeguard Surf Instructors (HLSI)." My wife and the children had a wonderful and joyful time (I was watching all the time)...We definitely plan on taking more lessons with them... More

My son (16) took lessons from HAWAII LIFEGUARD SURF INSTRUCTORS on Friday (7/17) and what a fine place! Unfortunately I did not catch the name of the instructor (See attached picture) but my son said he was great, and that is not an easy comment to get from him! We will go back again when we next visit.

Our 9 year old son was keen to try his hand at surfing while we were on holiday on the Big Island and not knowing anything about surfing we asked the concierge at our hotel if he could recommend anywhere. He gave us the phone number for Hawaii Life Guard Surf Instructors and after a short phone call my son... More

I can't stop telling everyone that I spent my last day in Hawaii surfing! I am a first timer with a healthy respect for (read: fear of) the ocean and mediocre swimming skills. Jacob (my surf coach) insured that I was successful from the beginning, and his advice as well as Tiffany's meant that I was surfing with relative ease... More

There are several places offering surf instructions but after some research we chose them. It is a family run busienss with all of their instructors certified life guards which was comforting. I liked that they did dry land instruction first and then put you into the water it made the whole experience much better.

Our family of four had a great experience with the 2 hour group lesson through HLSI in Kona. We had three instructors for the four of us and as promised we all got up on the boards and rode waves in the one hour lesson (one hour in the water after a briefing in their office). Aside from the instructors... More

My wife and I received surfing lessons for a wedding gift. As Canadians more used to snowboarding or skiing we had very limited expectations. The family feel of this business is evident throughout the experience from check in, in class lesson and surfing itself. Our instructor Jay was very patient and made every portion feel fun no matter how we... More

I have taken a few surf lessons in the past (in California and Hawaii). I am by no means experienced or skilled (I am definitely a beginner). The lessons I have taken in the past were at other schools and in other places (not in Kona). I thought I would try surfing in Kona and this school came highly recommended.... More

My wife and I are in our 40's and are quite active but have never surfed. Our friends convinced us to give it a try. We went out with Jacob, and with some coaching and help, we both caught and surfed the first wave we tried. The bay that they teach in has a very predictable break, and the guys... More
