Lovely beach right on Alii Drive

It is an OK beach. A bit crowded and a bit small but overall not bad. It is Hawaii after all. how bad can it be! Waves can be a bit rough during January but it is fun watching the boogie boarders. Very close by. Got lucky and found a parking spot as someone just happen to be pulling out... More

This beach was a 2 minute walk from our vacation rental. Great place for the kids to boogie board. Waves were rough at times, but that was what made it fun.

For a very nice beach close to town, don't miss this one. It has nice sandy areas, but at times high surf can take away the sand and leave more of the jagged lava. Parking can be a problem in the afternoon. It is recommended that you pick that one for a morning drive down Alii Drive and enjoy the... More

We spent an afternoon at the Magic Sands beach and although we visited during one of the 'missing sands' periods, it was still a nice spot to hang out by the water. The shore was pretty rocky, but a confident swimmer could still get out without too much issue. Wouldn't recommend it for kids however as there was no sand... More

I visited this beach twice while on the Big Island. The first time it was a great swimming beach with lots of white sand and the second time two weeks later, the sand was gone and was replaced by large rocks!

Magic Sands.. the name says it all. Some days it is a sandy beach, other days it is just lava rock.. hence.. Magic Sands.. the tide and waves are right.. you have lots of beach, lot of good snorkeling and boogieboarding. Good parking, tiny little beach but a cool scene, lifeguards are nice.. This is a sacred place to many... More

Warm water, lifeguard on duty. You can play in the waves, the water is warm and clear. The beach is clean. The first time I went there the sand was everywhere then the next time most of it was gone and the rocks were exposed, so you had to walk across them in order to get out to the sand.... More

It is a beach where the sand is there in some seasons and then in others it is just rocks, hence "magic sands". It is usually crowded and right next to a busy road. It feels more like a public pool at times. But the waves can be fun and I know that people have surfed/body boarded there too. Overall... More

We went to the Magic beach in Dec 2015 when the sand was on the shore. The beach was busy and the sand was soft and nice, but it was smaller than I expected
