In January and February, the beach is very rocky. However, there is still sand and room to sunbathe. For the rest of the year, the tides change, and the entire beach is covered with sand. At these times, the beach is much friendlier for swimmers. Also, there is a volleyball net set up for all to use, so bring a... More

This is a very beautiful beach with beautiful blue water and white sand. This beach is for boogie boarding...not really for little kids because it is pretty rough but fun for teens. There are some palms for shade, but gets quite full pretty quickly. We went twice for the teens to play and boogie boards and the rest of us... More

I was here in 2012 and spent every day on this beach. Alas, this time the sands had receded (but I was promised they would be back) so I was not able to swim here because the tides were strong and instead of sand, there were boulders..

If your using your GPS, the address is actually this. I think there is typo on the address in the trip advisor header. 77-6452 Alii Dr Kailua Kona, HI 96740-2484 This is a wonderful place to go if you want a place that has a nice view, sparkling clean water that's not too rough for the kids, and some soft, light... Great beach for bodysurfing/boogie boarding. Our condo was right across the road. Noticed lots of homeless people sleeping in cars along the road here....but they were harmless. The beach was beautiful for the first week of our visit. The sands started to disappear overnight as the winter waves got stronger. It was rather fabulous to watch the huge waves crash... More

Stay aware and watch the locals in the early hours. Then try your hand at reading the swells to catch your wave. Small place can get crowded by 10a this time of year. Feel the sands disappear from your feet. Mind your keiki (kids) and have fun in this convenient ocean playground. Snorkeling not recommended.

Great place to enjoy the beach if the beach is there. The higher surf tends to wash the sand out. Beware when body surfing or boogie boarding in higher surf, could get some sand burns. Can get crowded go early.

Just a short walk from our condo. This beach was a bit more crowded than other public shoreline access beaches but over was amazing. nice to have your toes in the sand rather than just lava rocks

Great facilities, luscious sand to immerse your feet in - it feels quite thick! The water is so blue it is a lovely beach. I'd love to see it when it disappears. Apparently it disappears back to lava rock due to tides! Hence Magic Sands!

Magic Sands is a small but fun beach. Bring your boogie board or do some body surfing here. This is one of the best spots for that. Or just sit on the sandy beach and enjoy the sun. We always make a couple visits here when in Kailua-Kona.
