It is hard to believe that Romania is right across the river. At some quiet places many different birds can be seen by the river. A walk in the city park by the river is a must when you visit Ruse.

After leaving Constanta, Romania, our river vessel cruised the Danube and docked in Ruse (Bulgaria's biggest Danube port). The scenery along the river was primarily covered in trees and, from where we docked, there was no easy footpath to anywhere of interest. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the Danube's tranquility. This part of the Danube offered an excellent lauching point for... More

it's a pity that no real stroll is managed along the river. You can go for a while, till the bridge leading to Romania if you want, but you will only go through industrial decadence: what a pity!

It's just a river here. Nothing special. At the Ruse junction there is a lot more industrial artifacts to take away the beauty but it's decent.

We were fortunate enough to be in Ruse in early summer. It was getting pretty warm but the trees (we thought they looked liked Lindon-type tree) were in bloom and the fragrance was intoxicating. The walk along the river is very popular and pleasant. There were several river tour boats docked here. Plus we happened upon a sand sculpturing festival... More

While I can't say the Bulgarian Danube will compete with the castles and forests of further upstream, this region of Bulgaria is little traveled by foreigners except for cyclists on the Danube path and the occasional boater from the Czech Republic or elsewhere, and it's a pity because it is so stunning. I particularly recommend Tutrakan, an old Roman fortress... More

Ruse is beautiful during the spring, I highly recommend it. Their park is large and full of color - green everywhere, trees in bloom, flowers. We even saw cute squirls! A stroll in the park and on the bank of the river are a must-do in Ruse.

For some reason, I was really looking forward to visiting Ruse. I was not disappointed. Make sure you go to the town square and enjoy the fountains, and all of the shops and eateries that are available. Ruse is situated where the Danube forms a natural border between Romania and Bulgaria. From the town square, the streets are wagon spokes... More
