During a 5 day visit to Ruse, we took a couple of opportunities to walk along the river - walking from west to east (we accessed the river near a shopping mall) the first part was a dusty road which fortunately led to an esplanade. Very little shade and not a lot of seating although we did find a small,... More

Wherever I go or have been the first thing to do when I come home is go by the river..there is something magical in it and charges me with happiness. There is a small bar on the corner where I usually sit with all my friends and my daughter, stretch my legs and just enjoy the day or the night.... More

We walked along the river which was poorly signposted from the centre. There is not much to see apart from old industrial buildings. We found the remains of a sand-sculpture festival, which we will try to visit next year, but apart from that, not much to see.

You can make the Danube at Ruse more interesting with a visit to the National Transport Museum on the river bank, which, as well as two Bulgarian royal trains and a Turkish Sultan's train, has a model (with paddle-steamer) showing the key role of the Danube at Ruse in the postal-system of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. If there's time, you could... More

Lovely weather but not the prettiest scenery around the Danube. I think because they built the railway by the river, it was not possible to built the centre by the river. So there is only the Hotel Riga nearby and no other attractions. It is not the nicest part of the Danube.

The water front is not that interesting. Do not expect a Budapest or Prague. There are no interesting features.

It is hard to believe that Romania is right across the river. At some quiet places many different birds can be seen by the river. A walk in the city park by the river is a must when you visit Ruse.

After leaving Constanta, Romania, our river vessel cruised the Danube and docked in Ruse (Bulgaria's biggest Danube port). The scenery along the river was primarily covered in trees and, from where we docked, there was no easy footpath to anywhere of interest. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the Danube's tranquility. This part of the Danube offered an excellent lauching point for... More
