It's a very unusual colour from the outside, but I quite like that, it adds to its charm. The inside is lovely also, very intricately decorated. Of course it is where the wedding scene in The Sound of Music was filmed, and it's really great to be able to go in and see that.

Basilica of St Michael is where the SOM wedding scene was shot. Its a pretty little church in an attractive little town of Mondsee, Austria.

Visited this place and the town as a part of our sound of music tour. The guide recreated the entire wedding scene for us and explained the locations and all. Although did not get time to go inside and instead we ended up having some desert at a nearby cafe. But still this is good for a few photo's.

Of course we went to this very large Basilica on the Viator Sound of Music Tour. The church was so beautiful and quite large. It was selected by The Sound of Music movie makers as the wedding scene for the Captain and Maria because of the size.

I took a trip from Salzburg on a Monday. Catching bus 140 from Mirabell Platz on the Schloss side of the road. The buses ran every hour and dropped you at Mondsee bus station. From here you can easily walk to the lake (unfortunately I was on a tight schedule so didn't have time) You can see the church towers... More

We went here to see the beauty of it. There were some interesting facts about this place which our tour guide pointed out and the place was calm and very soothing.

This Gothic beauty used to be a Monastery. It has been lovingly restored. It dates back to the 15th century. Of course it was made famous due to the Sound of Music. If you are a fan or not - either way it is worth a visit, it really is beautiful. There is no entry fee, it is free. Donations... More

Passing through on a Sunday morning we had a wonderful surprise. Firstly Sunday is Sunday and the shops are not open, aside from the cafés, and that was actually enjoyable. Until the visit we were unaware that St Michael's was used in the Sound of Music. The square in front of the church is simple yet impressive. We were fortunate... More

We visited the basilica on a Sound of Music tour from Salzburg. It is a little uphill hike from the tour bus parking lot but it is worth it. The church is absolutely breathtaking. After leaving the church you walk into the main square of the town, with the quaint buildings with pictures painted on their facades. There are several... More

All the sound of music scenes were shot in Hollywood apart from when they got married, when you go inside you can total understand why it was carried out here. I do not usually visit churches with out a special reason, but you can not miss this a visit to St Michael's.
