Amazing to see the church from the film, as well as the fact that it is a beautiful church in itself. The church is worth going to Mondsee alone, but the town and the lake are also worth a visit!

I spent most of my childhood dreaming of getting married in this church after watching the scenes from Sound of Music. I love that I was finally able to see it in person, much smaller than I anticipated but so pretty. I kept closing my eyes listening to the music playing in my head from the scenes and have to... Church looks imposing from outside but amazingly doesn't look so inside. Baroque styling to the limit, was getting dark when we arrived but added to the ambience well worth a visit .

It is worth seeing, but I was taken aback by the sales of souvenirs inside the worship area of the church. I must be getting "old" since this kind of offended my sensibilities. It is a 5 minute walk to the water's edge of Mondsee and very nice views.

Beautiful church, very ornate inside with an amazing altar and pipe organ. It's well worth a stop and the town of Mondsee if a lovely little town as well.

It's a very unusual colour from the outside, but I quite like that, it adds to its charm. The inside is lovely also, very intricately decorated. Of course it is where the wedding scene in The Sound of Music was filmed, and it's really great to be able to go in and see that.

Basilica of St Michael is where the SOM wedding scene was shot. Its a pretty little church in an attractive little town of Mondsee, Austria.

Visited this place and the town as a part of our sound of music tour. The guide recreated the entire wedding scene for us and explained the locations and all. Although did not get time to go inside and instead we ended up having some desert at a nearby cafe. But still this is good for a few photo's.

Of course we went to this very large Basilica on the Viator Sound of Music Tour. The church was so beautiful and quite large. It was selected by The Sound of Music movie makers as the wedding scene for the Captain and Maria because of the size.

I took a trip from Salzburg on a Monday. Catching bus 140 from Mirabell Platz on the Schloss side of the road. The buses ran every hour and dropped you at Mondsee bus station. From here you can easily walk to the lake (unfortunately I was on a tight schedule so didn't have time) You can see the church towers... More
