This drive was worth the trip. Luckily, a ranger stopped us and recommended we change our route so that we would see Mt. Rushmore through the tunnels. In the other direction, the breathtaking views are behind you. At times it seemed we were the only car on the road but it definitely became more congested at we neared Mt. Rushmore.

Took us an hour to drive the road. Had nice views, some narrow spots especially with bigger vehicles sharing the road. Was part of the must do list by other travelers.

Excellent drive with views to die for! Don't be in a rush, as you can see Mount Rushmore from many places on the road. Saw mountain goats too.

On a whim we decided to take the Iron Mountain Highway back to our campgrounds. I'm glad we did. It was very scenic, although I didn't get to enjoy the scenery as much as the rest of my family. I was busy trying to keep it between the lines. The highway winds through the Black Hills. Along the way you'll... More

We rode Iron Mountain Rd from the South and the views were fantastic. Great views of Mount Rushmore thru the tunnels if your riding/driving from the South.

Beautiful turning, twisting drive through breathtaking scenery. Emerge from a tunnel with an immediate beautiful view of Mt. Rushmore.

I can't believe this is a legal-to-drive road. The curves, the narrow lanes, the tunnels, the strange switchback loops, and the BUFFALO!! Just a fantastic road to drive (I did it twice). When you are driving AWAY from the Rushmore side, you'll pass through one tunnel that frames a distant Rushmore perfectly. Your iPhone camera won't do the view justice,... More

Scenery beyond belief, incredible roads to travel...a must see! We are very fond of the Going To The Sun Road in Glacier National...but this drive has a special place in our hearts as well...

We drove this road back from Wind Cave to Mount Rushmore. I recommend it. Awesome views and fun road to drive. My 11 year old daughter enjoyed it.

The views are breathtaking! Everywhere you look, it is beautiful. It is winding and up and down, so be aware. Anytime there is a place to pull over and look out (take photos), do!
