Awesome!

Scenery is amazing, loved the pigtail bridges. It's a wee bit nerve wracking but worth the drive. Loved it!!

We traveled from Custard State Park to Mount Rushmore on this road. It was a little tight with our Ford Excursion, but the kids got a kick out of it. It was a neat approach to Mount Rushmore.

Our family drove on this road over Memorial Day weekend. It was quite foggy at times because it was a little rainy but that didn't stop us from enjoying the views! The bridges, turns, tunnels, etc. we're really neat to see! Loved the drive-a must do if visiting the Black Hills!!

This was a really pretty drive with plenty of places to stop and take pictures. The "Pigtail Bridges" we're a little hard to photograph but they were still really cool! Stop at the picnic area for some exploring and some great views of the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore. The tunnels are cool, and when we were there we had... More

I have driven some mountainous roads in CA and this was reminiscent of them!! One way tunnels and bridges, hair pen turns, drop offs, no guard rails, and amazing views of Mt Rushmore!! Just go for it.

There are different routes to approach Mount Rushmore, but this is the only way you should take for your first time. This road from the south is a wonderful drive that perfectly frames Mount Rushmore through multiple carved tunnels as you near the mountain. Be sure to stop at the Peter Norbeck Overlook along the way. The kids will love... More

Drove it between Mt Rushmore and Custer State Park in mid-April which is warm enough but not tourist season yet so we had it all to ourselves! This allowed us to stop and see the sights without impeding traffic or having to deal with loud vehicles or tourists impeding our tranquility. The 'pig-tail' roads and tunnels were nice. Great old... This scenic biway is an awesome way to make your way out of Custer State park into the area of Mount Rushmore- lots of scenic pull outs to see Mt. Rushmore as you approach it!

Take this drive if you love great scenery, views of Mt Rushmore thru the tunnels, and pigtail bridges. Drive from east to West, road ends near Mt Rushmore and Keystone.

Having just purchased a brand new 25' travel trailer we turned off to Iron Mountain Road. There was a sign warning us the a tunnel ahead was 8 feet tall. BUT I had already turned onto the road and there were no turnoffs or turnarounds after the sign. I was stuck. I was hoping there was a bypass or a... More
