Located not too far from Custer, SD., it is a journey not to be missed. Drive slowly, the road is narrow and care needs to be taken, when driving on this route. The scenery is amazing. There are a lot of bends, twists and turns on this road. No time to sightsee, whilst driving. Stop the car and admire the... More

Pretty much a mandatory drive to take visiting friends and relatives on! Thrills and pigtail bridges.

If you're in the area to do some riding, then this is then this is the ride for you. After you finish riding the Needles be certain to make this ride next. Bring your camera too. Great shot of the "heads" through a tunnel. Absolutely stunning!

Iron Mountain Road is a twisty 17 mile stretch of road south of Keystone SD. This section of road has 3 tunnels that you can look through, perfectly framing Mt. Rushmore (if you don't see it going through a tunnel, turn around and look the other direction.) There area also 3 pig-tail wooden bridges, over 400 bends and twists and... More

What a wonderful drive among the mountains of South Dakota. After driving from the east and seeing only prairies for miles and miles, this drive was a delight. It is "an attraction" in itself!

Because of the lack of snow we were able to spend a wonderful day driving around on Iron Mountain Road taking in views of Mt Rushmore and stopping along the way to take pictures of the scenery. The bonus of this time of year is no traffic to worry about when entering the tunnels and pulling over along the side... More

Our kids just love travelling this road. There are tunnels that you can honk before entering as they are one lane only. You can also catch a great view of Mount Rushmore. The road can get a little scary at some points so be aware!

Iron Mountain Road is very scenic and you cant go very fast because for the 17 mile drive it has 314 curves, 14 switcbacks,3 pigtails,3 tunnels, 2 splits and 4 famous presidents. When you go through a tunnel there are places to pull off the road and you can get awsome views of Mt. Rushmore. The drive is peaceful and... More

My husband and I rode this on rented Harley we picked up in Aurora, CO - it was a recommendation from our friends, and a MUST if you're riding in the area!

We traveled this and it was the highlight of our Black Hills experience. I would highly recommend. Just make sure you drive slowly and have mirrors that can be turned in. The tunnels are tight. It's a wonderful time.
