Iron Mountain Road is an amazing scenic drive. You can see Mt. Rushmore framed through tunnels cut into the mountain, as well as the famous "pigtail" bridges. Make sure to stop at the lookout at the top.

I wouldn't miss this scenic drive if I were you. Beautiful views and overlooks, awesome tunnels, and much excitement on this drive. Wish we couldn't have driven slower! If you have a motorcycle or convertible I think that would be the best way to take this road but it is still awesome in any vehicle!

A lot of visitors to the Black Hills miss this road. Iron Mtn. Road turnoff is located midway (1 mile) between Keystone and Mt Rushmore. People are fixated on getting to Mt Rushmore and drive right on by or they decide it is takes to much time to drive all of it (30 miles). Don't miss out! Take this short... More

Iron Mountain Road is beautiful, fun and if you take your time, alot of wildlife to see. The tunnels provide surprise views of Mount Rushmore if you travel north on the road. Some of the wildlife I have seen while traveling this road are elk, big horn sheep, mountain goats, deer, buffalo, hawks and eagles.

As part of your drive through Custer state park, drive along the iron mountain road. The foliage mixed with rocky outcrops make for some of the nicest images of the black hills. Keep an eye out for deer and mountain goats along the way.

The first time through only did the East side of the Park . This was all pleasant but the toll $15 for 20 miles piece of road to Keystone seemed excessive .Came back the next day in the opposite direction. The views were better and seeing the complete park made it better. In fact overall i found it was better... More

Glad we made this the initial entry to the area. It was like opening a gift wrapped present. I highly recommend the drive.

Cool bridges, excellent views, nice road and several views of Mt. Rushmore. Just a very neat ride but be prepared to take your time and enjoy the trip. Not the fastest way to get to attractions south of Keystone if you're pressed for time.

This is a twisty drive with pig-tail bridges, tight turns, and tunnels. Great views of Mount Rushmore and some nice places to stop and view. Traffic wasn't terrible as everyone was moving at a slow pace and enjoying the view. Make sure you travel toward Mt. Rushmore so you can get a complete understanding of the tunnel views. Enjoy the...
