Took this route from Custer state park to Mount Rushmore in a Lincoln Navigator. It was like being on a luxury roller coaster ride in one of the most beautiful places in the US. Well worth the thrills and vistas. It would be cool on a motorcycle as well. Amazing road. I think I went through a set of brakes... More

After our stop at Mount Rushmore, we went back into town. Went back into town and saw a shop for Iron Mountain. Went inside and found out about the drive. We are very glad we decided to drive back and do the Iron Mountain drive. Beautiful scenery. Great views of Mount Rushmore. We stop at the top of the park,... More

Didn't want to join the crowd at the Rushmore monument itself but got great views from many stop off points along scenic route!

We drove this beautiful drive from Custer toward Keystone as advised by friends who had driven it. I was looking forward to taking my own photos of Mount Rushmore through the rock tunnel. We stopped at the first tunnel and several of us were really struggling to get a good photograph. We didn't realize there are two tunnels - the... More

If you want breath-taking winding mountain roads, views of Mt. Rushmore, "pigtail" bridges, three mountain tunnels and great photo opportunities then this is your road. It is accessible from only a few miles from Mt. Rushmore, so if you are viewing the faces, make time to drive on this. Make sure to stop at each of the three tunnels because... More

Visited in July, taken by friends so we could throughly enjoy all the views during the drive. This particular drive through Custer State Park was amazing! The tunnels on this road have been engineered to align with views of the nearby Mt. Rushmore! What an unexpected delight! Enjoy!

Beautiful drive through the woods with a lot of features like tunnels and bridges. For a totally different look than the Needle's Highway this is a must do drive. The twists and turns provide a different view with every turn creating plenty of great photo spots of the hills and the presidents on the mountain.

The road is very scenic as well. The tunnels are literally carved out of very solid rock. With the right angle of approach you can get some real spectacular views of Mt Rushmore. The pigtail bridges are interesting as well.

This road leads from Mt. Rushmore to Custer State park. It also goes through part of Black hills National Forest. At one point we come up to a van stopped in the road at a point where there is no shoulder or anyway to get around them. We beep at them and the woman in the passenger seat starts waving... More
