We will be making this drive again. Make sure to stop at the rest area and climb the rocks to the north. You will get some great pictures of Mount Rushmore from a diva de that most people will not have. Lots of Buffalo on the drive and lots of babies in the spring and early summer.

There are a lot of switch backs going up and down the mountain but it is easy drive and wonderful. Seeing Mount Rushmore framed by the tunnel when you drive through the tunnel is fantastic!

Taking this winding and at times narrow road up through the hillside is like taking a hiking trail from the comfort of your vehicle. Every turn provides ample opportunity for amazing landscape within the Black Hills. The tunnels frame up perfect views of Mount Rushmore in the distance. Don't be dissuaded by those that feel that you need a good... More

A wonderful winding road up the mountain and suddenly you ar face with one lane tunnels. Each one cut so you see the Rushmore heads in the distance. A great drive with additional trn outs to see the vistas.

We went on this drive based on all of the 5 star reviews, and we were slightly disappointed. First of all, without a very large zoom in your camera, forget about any of the pictures you see on here. The drive is nice and you do get to see Mount Rushmore, but if you want pictures hit up the actual... More

This road trip is definitely best by traveling from south to north on hwy 16. It will wind up eventually giving way to views of mount rushmore off in the distance and will have a few cool tunnels and unique bridges. At the top of this drive is a cool lookout with some short hiking and rocks to crawl around... More

The twists and turns, the trees, the wildlife, the granite tunnels, pigtail bridges...it was all great! A definite must-do if you are in Custer State Park.

This was a terrific trip and full of interesting things. The pig-tail bridges are an engineering marvels - you can get dizzy just driving around them. Each of the tunnels were strategically placed to give a great view of Mt. Rushmore. That is a great way to get a picture but standing there for the photo is also a great... More

We drove this on our way to Mt. Rushmore (really the way to go to see it through the tunnels). It winds through beautiful country and then you get to the top and get to see Mt. Rushmore!

This road is a must when visiting the Mt Rushmore area. Beautiful views and amazing engineering that lines up the view of Mt. Rushmore in the tunnel openings of the road. I enjoyed this more that Mt. Rushmore itself. The views of Mt Rushmore were great!
