I did this drive instead of the Needles since I'd already seen it from the north end. It was a really fun drive. Lots of twists and turns, tunnels and pigtail (spiral) bridges. A great way to go to Mt. Rushmore. Loved the two places where the road split into individual paths through the forest. You get a great view... More

Put on your seatbelt and hold on! Scenic drive with hair pin turns and many tunnels. A must if you are in the area. This road connects with the wildlife loop through Custer State Park and ends up at Mount Rushmore

Be sure you drive Iron Mountain Road from the south to the north. As shown in this picture you can frame the one lane tunnel to see the 4 presidents on Mount Rushmore. If you drive it north to south it's all in your rear view mirror. Note the parking areas at the tunnels are small. Be sure to get... More

Great road to ride your motorcycle on. Stayed at a cabin near State Game Lodge in Custer State Park and road from there through Iron Mountain and then down to Keystone, SD. Wonderful ride and beautiful. Stop at the top of Iron Mountain and get a view of Mt. Rushmore and take a few pics. You'll be happy you did.

Lots of twists and turns and great views. Has 3 "pigtail" bridges that are fun to drive and very pretty.

I think this may have been the quietest drive with two children yet! Ironically, it was also one of the most exciting! DO NOT MISS this experience in South Dakota!

The Iron Mountain Road had many great views and tunnels. I would recommend taking the time to drive this road.

Who even thinks up these roads?!?! Awesome drive. All the loops/drives through the park are amazing- each in its own way. Each entirely different.
