This scenic biway is an awesome way to make your way out of Custer State park into the area of Mount Rushmore- lots of scenic pull outs to see Mt. Rushmore as you approach it!

Take this drive if you love great scenery, views of Mt Rushmore thru the tunnels, and pigtail bridges. Drive from east to West, road ends near Mt Rushmore and Keystone.

Having just purchased a brand new 25' travel trailer we turned off to Iron Mountain Road. There was a sign warning us the a tunnel ahead was 8 feet tall. BUT I had already turned onto the road and there were no turnoffs or turnarounds after the sign. I was stuck. I was hoping there was a bypass or a... More

I have driven all over the country and this was definitely one of the best drives anywhere in the US. I would make this drive again, as I loved the wildlife, the road, the tunnels and the view of Mount Rusmore.

This is the only way (in my opinion) to see Mount Rushmore!!! This was the long way for us from our hotel but certainly worth the trip! The road is simply spectacular and filled with 17 miles of 314 curves, 14 switchbacks, 3 pigtails, 3 tunnels, 4 presidents, and 2 splits. At each bend and twist we were able to... More

Located not too far from Custer, SD., it is a journey not to be missed. Drive slowly, the road is narrow and care needs to be taken, when driving on this route. The scenery is amazing. There are a lot of bends, twists and turns on this road. No time to sightsee, whilst driving. Stop the car and admire the... More

If you're in the area to do some riding, then this is then this is the ride for you. After you finish riding the Needles be certain to make this ride next. Bring your camera too. Great shot of the "heads" through a tunnel. Absolutely stunning!

Iron Mountain Road is a twisty 17 mile stretch of road south of Keystone SD. This section of road has 3 tunnels that you can look through, perfectly framing Mt. Rushmore (if you don't see it going through a tunnel, turn around and look the other direction.) There area also 3 pig-tail wooden bridges, over 400 bends and twists and... More
