We went to Spam A Lot in July, as a family affair, we sat in the first row of the balcony, if you are short, not a good option, I would have went one row up, that being said the balcony gave us a great view. The actors were excellent, costumes, timing, singing, these actors obviously take their craft seriously... More

The playhouse is certainly worth visiting while you are in the Black Hills. They offer a variety of shows during the summer. The shows vary in quality based upon the selection. Overall, the staff works very hard to put on a great show and is certainly worth the price.

We saw a great production of Spam A Lot. The theatre is quaint but that adds to the whole experience. We were right in the front row of the action and enjoyed every minute of it. The cast was wonderful and the whole production was welled planned out. Would have loved to see more plays as they no doubt would... More

The Secret Garden was well done in the matter of costume and set design. Some of the vocals left a lot to be desired, but all in all they did a good job for a community theatre. Beautiful Black Hills property!

We were very excited to stay at Custer State Park and were excited that after many days on the road we would be able to not only go to many exciting nagtural wonders, but we would also get to attend the theater. Sadly, the play being presented was one with an adult theme and not for students or small children.... More

Thanks so much for your comments--we sincerely appreciate hearing from you. We are a professional theater associated with the University of South Dakota and it is true that not every play is family friendly as the season is chosen for a balance of comedy, drama and musicals, as well as the educational aspects that the works offer for students of... I have enjoyed several shows over the last couple years ~ and have never been disappointed. The quality of actors is impressive and there is a nice variety of shows. The theater is small and intimate, with very comfortable seating and air conditioning!

My family was able to attend a production of "The Secret Garden" while vacationing in the area. I found out about the playhouse on tripadvisor and a little investigation revealed that this little gem is within the boundaries of Custer State Park. I was intrigued and then completely convinced when I found out that on Fridays two children can attend... More

my sister and I were looking for something different and fun to do while on our vacation. We decided to give this little theatre a try. We were not disapointed. The setting that the theatre is in is breathtaking! I recommend going early so you have time to drive through the park before going to the play. There is a... More

Since this is a small theater located inside of a state park, our expectations were not that high. Were we ever wrong!! We could not believe how good the acting was. We have been to numerous plays in NYC and in Minneapolis and these actors kept us just as entertained. We went to see the Hound of the Baskervilles and... More
