Just saw 'To Kill a Mockingbird'--what an amazing performance!! The Playhouse is a building from the past and adds to the wonder of the performance. This is a wonderful experience that is well worth the price and trip. It is off the beaten path...but the path to the Playhouse is a beautiful adventure in and of itself. A must do!!

Very colorful and amusing plays that are well directed and presented to the crowd. Will be seeing three plays this summer. Also, a great value.

One of the oldest playhouses in the US, Black Hills Playhouse is a magnet for those who enjoy a great play in a rustic playhouse nestled in the Black Hills. The comedy we saw was great and even a big bull "buffalo" greeted us at the entrance road to the playhouse.

The Black Hills Playhouse is indeed a special place. And a GREAT venue for "summer stock"-type performances. Annual productions are diverse. Personally, we enjoy the comedies the most. (Musicals are not The Playhouse's strong suit in our opinion.) Much time, effort and $$ has been put into modernizing the facilities and the location in Custer State Park is great. Make... More

We went to Spam A Lot in July, as a family affair, we sat in the first row of the balcony, if you are short, not a good option, I would have went one row up, that being said the balcony gave us a great view. The actors were excellent, costumes, timing, singing, these actors obviously take their craft seriously... More

The playhouse is certainly worth visiting while you are in the Black Hills. They offer a variety of shows during the summer. The shows vary in quality based upon the selection. Overall, the staff works very hard to put on a great show and is certainly worth the price.

We saw a great production of Spam A Lot. The theatre is quaint but that adds to the whole experience. We were right in the front row of the action and enjoyed every minute of it. The cast was wonderful and the whole production was welled planned out. Would have loved to see more plays as they no doubt would... More

The Secret Garden was well done in the matter of costume and set design. Some of the vocals left a lot to be desired, but all in all they did a good job for a community theatre. Beautiful Black Hills property!

We were very excited to stay at Custer State Park and were excited that after many days on the road we would be able to not only go to many exciting nagtural wonders, but we would also get to attend the theater. Sadly, the play being presented was one with an adult theme and not for students or small children.... More

Thanks so much for your comments--we sincerely appreciate hearing from you. We are a professional theater associated with the University of South Dakota and it is true that not every play is family friendly as the season is chosen for a balance of comedy, drama and musicals, as well as the educational aspects that the works offer for students of... I have enjoyed several shows over the last couple years ~ and have never been disappointed. The quality of actors is impressive and there is a nice variety of shows. The theater is small and intimate, with very comfortable seating and air conditioning!
