If you are searching for a quick fishing spot or swimming beach, Legion Lake is very close to Highway 16A and is somewhat in the center of Custer State Park. The fishing tends to be good all year, but the area's close proximity to the highway makes it kinda busy with tourists. The nearby Legion Lake Store is convenient, but... More

Legion Lake is in Custer State Park and easy to get to from the entrance. We moved here from Grace Coolidge which has much smaller sites. We had a very large flat site that overlooked the lake across the road. Despite being closest to the highway there was no problem with noise. The whole place looks new...paved spacious sites, nice... Loved this little lake, great sunsets, stars, fire pit. Stayed in house keeping cabin with views of lake. While cooking was cramped, it worked. Small cabin for five people, but okay for two. Beds were too soft for our liking, and decor dark. Windows open inward, so worried about bumping into them. While supplied, you may want to bring your... More

Stopped here on a hot summer day. It was relaxing to sit by the lake and sip on the great ised coffee from the coffee and ice cream shop. Don't drive by this one with out stopping.

The lake itself was very picturesque. We all had a great time hiking & canoeing around the lake. Occasionally you would see a fish jump. It was a nice quiet peaceful lake we really did love it. My only suggestion is do not eat there, the food really was not good.

This was an ok stop for lunch in Custer park. Not that the food was fabulous or quick, but there aren't many options in the park itself. Ice cream was a nice treat. If you are short on time and want to spend time at a lake, go to Sylvan Lake instead - much nicer.

This lake is beautiful. The beach area is big, clean, and perfect for families. I know they rent paddle boats and canoes, but we swam all day and had a wonderful time.

The beach at Legion lake was nice for the kids as was the bass fishing. My son caught a ton! The geese were fun to watch, but beware of their nasty poo piles that are EVERYWHERE! The canoe and paddle boat rentals were outrageously priced in my opinion so we ended up not taking part in those activities. Also, get... More
