Our kids participated in the Ranger fishing program offered at the lake. Having never fished before, it was a great learning experience for them and they were super excited to actually catch a fish. Adults can join the action as well provided you purchase a fishing license which were available through the Ranger.

We stopped for a picnic lunch, and there were picnic tables in various areas. Not the best area for a scenic hike. Trails seemed limited. But overall was beautiful scenery and we enjoyed our lunch; just a quick stop in our day.

We didn't get a chance to use any of the recreation opportunities, but this is a nice photo stop, especially in autumn. It's right off the road.

We stayed just outside of Custer State Park so we visited this lake frequently during our 5 day stay. This was by far the best place to fish. We caught bass, crappie, and blue gills! We fished mainly in the late afternoon/dusk to also catch the amazing sunsets. Our favorite lake in the park! Pack a cooler, grab your poles... More

A beautiful spot in the ponderosa pines is the place to picnic. At the end of the road is a trail shelter with a grill, fireplace and picnic tables. The view overlooks the lake and is quiet except for the wind in the pines. A neat secret spot!

This is a smaller lake outside of Custer State Park entrance and near RV campgrounds. The fishing is good in this lake if you are good fisherman. It's very pretty and scenic in this area, lots of wildlife and lots of deer at dusk. Not many people fishing here and not crowded at all. Numerous places to cast a line.... More

Pretty, scenic drive, plenty of shady picnic places along the roadside and down by the lake. Peaceful and quiet.

We sat along the edge of the lake after a day of driving in the park. It was our last day and we were enjoying a quite moment. Even though it was raining, the view was beautiful. We had thought we saw an osprey dive down for a fish and sure enough, several screeching calls from him, led us to... More

The lake is beautiful, surrounded by the Black Hills and pine forest. The swim beach was not in good repair (it had been overtaken by a flock of geese and hadn't yet been cleaned up when we were there). We didn't have a boat, which seemed the way one would make the most of a trip to Stockade Lake. However,... More

This is a nice lake. It's great for boating, water skiing, and all kinds of water fun. There's also some nice picnic areas if you have your lunch with you!
