We were here with kids. They walked around the lake, climbed the rocks and swam in the water, so they were never bored. We took lots of pictures. I sat at a bench and gazed at the water for well over an hour. I wish I was a talented artist so I could paint this scenic spot. Carry your paint... More

Nice small beach area, must do trails, beautiful! Bring your pop-up shade. The boys captured lots of minnows.

We spent a day taking some hikes and letting the kids swim and paddleboat. We had a quiet picnic lunch overlooking the lake and had wonderful day there.

We walked around the lake but, unfortunately, on the day that we chose to visit, within our limited time frame in the area, the whole region was covered in thick fog & distant views across the lake were completely non-existent. We had to laugh at how little was actually visible. However, even with this sort of weather you could tell... More

Clean trails to go hiking. Our son loved climbing on all the rocks. View was breathe taking and the swim in the lake was awesome. We will come back again and again

The view at Sylvan Lake was simply breathtaking. We spent the afternoon swimming and walking the one mile trail around the lake. The water is quite cool, but felt refreshing on a warm August day. You will see many people climbing the rocks, including the kids, just be careful as many children get over confident in their rock climbing ability... More

A beautiful, picturesque lake set at the top of the Black Hills. Nestled between boulders, the lake is simply beautiful. There is a nice, easy hiking trail around the lake, great for young families, and plenty of areas to swim or kayak. It was our favorite stop in the Black Hills.

I had heard so many comments about Sylvan Lake that we made a quick trip to check it out. It really is a gorgeous setting. We walked around the lake (about 45 minutes) and I was a bit nervous for my young grandchildren climbing on the rocks around part of the lake, but they didn't have any trouble. You do... More

If you are in the park on a clear day, take the time to drive to Sylvan Lake. The reflection of the rock formations is fantastic and the mirror image was beautiful. The park offers free canoes and lessons there on certain days of the week.
