Very nice area but be sure to note the weather conditions before you go because it is a seasonal lake. Gets mighty cold off season.

The Black Hills, SD can be hot in July. Also, it is a popular time for tourists to visit. If you don't mind sharing a beautiful, natural, scenic area with others, during a busy season, or are willing to walk beyond the crowds to find a area along the lake for yourself - the setting is gorgeous and the water... Never mind the words from this review and others - look at the pictures. This place is absolutely amazing and almost defies description. There's a nice trail around the lake - mostly a nice and easy hike with some areas that are more strenuous - along with boats for rent.

Seeing pictures if Sylvan lake was what brought us to Custer State Park. It is a gorgeous lake. We went paddle boating which was ok, they are very busy. My younger daughter and I hiked around the lake. This was an easy hike but there are some terrain considerations for people with mobility issues. We also climbed to the top... More

Loved it, but we got there at 9 and it was already crowded. By the time we left at 10:45, the parking lot was full.

This was our favorite stop in Custer State Park. We walked around the lake and kept gasping at the beautiful scenery. My boys enjoyed scurrying over the rocks and exploring around the lake. We wished we had budgeted more time for swimming. We saw several people swimming and some people had canoes out on the lake. It's a lovely little... More

My family reunion was held at Sylvan Lake Resort for 3 nights. We had 20 of the 67 units that are available. From inquiring about their availability on the telephone to meeting the staff prior to the reunion weekend to keeping all family members (ages 6 months to 90 years young) happy the staff was fantastic!

We recently stayed at Legion Lake Campground and drove to Sylvan Lake to swim. The beach is very nice, with several picnic tables and a good sandy area. There are several large rock formations in the water and lots of people swam out to them. The only suggestion I would make would be to put in a changing area or... More

In Wisconsin, we have a renowned lake called Devil's Lake that is gorgeous because it is nestled between two large bluffs and it is very deep. Sylvan Lake was that beauty magnified as it is nestled within Needles mountains. Spires of rock meet water here and it was absolutely beautiful. We took the path around the lake (about 1 mile)....
