We had a nice walk around the lake after doing a 6 mile hike. There is a bit of a rock scramble at the far end--it wasn't hard for us but would be harder for kids or older adults. There were a lot of good photo ops and it was worth the time.

We just drove through the lake and didn't stay long but we didn't need to stay long to see it was a beautiful lake! Lots of hiking available and it even looked like there was a wedding there! Highly recommend going to visit if you are in the area!

Nice easy walk around the lake with great views all along. We did the Sunday Gulch trail off of the lake loop- it is a 3 mile hike thru some of the granite boulders and thru tranquil meadows. The trail path was washed out in some places with the steps looking like a waterfall itself- we did a lot of... More

If you are hiking in Custer State Park I highly recommend the quick and easy Sylvan Lake hike. It's not hard and is really beautiful. We went in May the day after it snowed and the scenery was just great. A good warm up hike before you take on something more challenging.

This is such a lovely spot. The trail around the lake is easy and has many places to stop and take pictures. Go to the observation deck over the dam, or walk around the back side and walk trough the crevice, and take a look from below the dam.

We have visited here a few times. It is a medium sized lake surrounded by the rocky peaks in Custer State Park (Black Hills area). Beautiful- take lots of pictures. Great swimming area in the summer. There is a State Park store there. A short drive away is the Sylvan Lake Lodge with great dining and lodging.

Recently stayed in a cabin on Sylvan Lake. Cabin was a bit cramped and dated but OK for a few nights. The surrounding area is beautiful. Thanks to John at the lodge desk who gave us excellent hiking recommendations.Lodge is lovely. We had a great bartender. Dinner is pricey. A surprise blizzard was predicated for our last day at the... More

Incredible beauty! Stopped and took a walk around lake. Very scenic and relaxing. Early in season so store appeared to be just setting up so a full menu was unfortunately not available.

Nice place to begin day trip to park. Hike around lake with family was enjoyable. Some climbing on and around boulders. Enjoyed kayaking in lake as well.
