Description: For most, flying in a hot air balloon is a once-in-a-lifetime bucket-list...
For most, flying in a hot air balloon is a once-in-a-lifetime bucket-list adventure. But flying in the beautiful Black Hills is more than that, it’s unique. While balloon flights are generally focused over vineyards and farmland, Black Hills Balloons flies over some spectacular rugged terrain. The Custer Valley and the world renowned Custer State Park make up the heart of our flying area. There are mountains, valleys, lakes and prairies to view as you drift along on the morning breeze. We quite often see some unique wildlife that you really don't see in many other places from a balloon! The Black Hills are habitat to elk, antelope, buffalo and mule deer. If you're really lucky you might even see a mountain lion from the secure gondola! There’s nowhere else in the world, where you can witness the same views from a hot air balloon and fly over such a historic and beautiful landscape. Flights take place daily at sunrise, weather permitting, near Custer SD from May 1st through Oct 1st. Meeting time is approximately 30 minutes before sunrise. Guests can expect an approximate hour flight over the historic and beautiful Black Hills. 45 minutes to an hour and a half is normal depending on wind conditions and availability of landing sites. Champagne Toast and souvenir flight certificate included.

This was an amazing experience! Everything, from watching the preparations, to the wrap-up time, was a five star experience. Words can't describe what it feels like to be floating so close to rock formations and tree tops. Lookimg down on someone drinking an early morning coffee; watching the wildlife; drinking in the beauty. Even the landing was fun! Definitely an... More

My husband surprised me for our 10 year wedding anniversary with this bucket list item of a hot air balloon ride. Communication with Damien was perfect, take off was easy, balloon ride was magical, landing was soft, fun was had!

A group of 8 of us went on this adventure in September 2014. The crew was great. Walter, the pilot, pointed out wildlife and great photo opportunities as we gently drifted along. About 40 minutes into the flight, Walter announced we were ending early because he had found a great place to land. I was disappointed about the loss time... More

This was an awsome experience! Walter, our pilot, and Nate and Chumley, the assistants, were very fun, yet professional. It was the first time myself and my husband, and our traveling friends every went up (and came down) in a balloon. We got to scratch another item off of our bucket list! The view was gorgeous! We had no problem... More

I am sure the pilot and ride is great, However, the man who Is the owner/manager is hard to work with. I got up at 3:30 am to make the drive into Custer. I allowed time to drive slowly due to the curving and hilly roads. Also, here was a lot of wildlife to avoid. There was flashes of lightening... More

Go ahead and make a reservation to mark this off your bucket list! Steve and his crew were amazing. He has 30 years of experience flying a balloon, and it shows. When you first talk to him or meet him, you may think he is being short tempered or curt, but in reality, he is super focused on safety. He... More

Everything was so well planned and executed! Booking the flight was easy and the staff were friendly and knowledgable. The website is a bit outdated and doesn't have much info, but I read precious reviews and am so glad I did! Our pilot Walter was awesome and the flight itself was gorgeous!!!

Great place for a balloon ride and to see the black hills from the air. Steve (our pilot) is a genuinely nice guy and has years of experience. He is safe and really knows his stuff. For anyone wanting to try a hot air balloon can highly recommend.

From beginning to end this was a great experience. The tour operators were on time and very professional and informative. Steve our pilot came with years of flying and was a great tour guide also. The mimosa and muffins at the end was a great final touch. Highly recommend to anyone want to try a hot air balloon ride.

A beautiful way to see the Black Hills of South Dakota. Exciting and very scenic. Could see Elk and Deer, Harney Peak and Crazy Horse Mountain.
