My friend and I were in NOLA for the first time for a few days at the end of January. We wanted to take in as much of the area as we could...and we couldn't spend ALL our time on Bourbon Street, could we? (Well, yes. Actually, we could...but chose instead to expand our horizons.) At the recommendation of the... More

We loved the tour with Ina! Her storytelling ability was fantastic! We have been to New Orleans and did another tour but nothing like this one. We came in contact with many other walking tours that night, but we had so much fun learning about why the places were haunted. While we didn't experience a ghost, it made us sure... More

We recently had a wonderful and insightful Garden District tour with Anita. She brought the neighborhood to life with her vast historical knowledge of the area and as a long time resident, added great New Orleans color to her tour. We enjoyed the local folks the most during our visit and Anita was one of them. I would highly recommend... More

I did a group tour in the Garden District. It was okay. I wanted to go through Lafayette Cemetary and see some of the homes and wasn't comfortable going alone. This was a reasonably priced alternative with about 12 people. It seemed geared more towards celebrity houses, which I'm not interested in...tell me more about the actual families that lived... We really enjoyed our tour of the Garden District. Our tour guide was excellent! He was very friendly and knew so much about the area and history of New Orleans; he seemed to genuinely love his city. We saw several celebrity homes and the Lafayette Cemetery. Architecture is just beautiful! We covered a lot in the 2 hours we had,... More

Ina, our tour guide, was a wonderful historian and added a perspective of New Orleans that's not in the tour books. She told us stories of the people that built the city as we walked to the cemetary and explained many architectural details of the old houses and slave quarters. She explained how voodoo has been hijacked by hollywood, so... More

We took a Sunday morning tour with of the French Quarter. We had already been there exploring the previous day but we got to see a whole other side and back story to it. Our guide Leonce was great and told very interesting stories about the history of New Orleans and Louisiana. The group was a very nice 10 people... More

We booked the 5PM French Quarter 2 hour walking tour. I've been in the French Quarter several times and wanted to learn some of the history of the area. We arrived a few minutes early and Frank, our tour guide, was waiting for us. Everyone else cancelled so we got lucky and received a private tour. Frank is very friendly... More

After many hours of reviewing tour guide companies (there are A LOT in NOLA), I finally settled on this company for a cemetery/voodoo tour. I'm glad I did! Our tour guide was fantastic. She led us from the French Quarter to St. Louis Cemetery 1 and you learn SO MUCH on the way. I felt like this was better than... More

Our tour guide was phenomenal, David I believe his name was. He knew so much about the city and was passionate about it. It was something we were on the fence about doing but are SO GLAD we did.

Staying in Algiers

Neighborhood Profile
Algiers
Sitting pretty across the Mississippi River from the rambunctious French Quarter, the Crescent City’s second oldest neighborhood is as historic and as scenic as any – just a lot less showy about it. With its numerous 19th and early 20th century homes and plentiful parks and riverside green space for cycling and walking, subdued and low key Algiers yields the best views of New Orleans and offers a quiet haven from the hustle and bustle in other parts of town. Most of the area’s activity, for visitors anyway, takes place at Algiers Point where the famous Canal Street / Algiers Ferry has been the main attraction since 1827 and is still giving folks one of the best rides in town at very affordable rates. Restaurants, bars and music venues here all but guarantee the utmost of authentic experiences sans any hype or high prices.
