Bike through the little seen parts of New Orleans with us and take a ride...

Bike through the little seen parts of New Orleans with us and take a ride through the rebirth of a historical neighborhood. See not only the damage from Hurrican Katrina, but the uplifting rebuilding; and more importantly, why the neighborhood needed to survive. We'll visit the levee, learn about the musical culture, and meet Ronald Lewis, local historian and curator of the House of Dance and Feathers. Definitely an unforgettable day.

Nick was our tour guide, and he was awesome. He had a lot of knowledge about the area, and could answer almost any question. It was really nice to get out of the tourist areas, and learn a bit about New Orleans.

It was a cold day. Luckily, they called us the morning of the ride to suggest extra warm clothing. Nick, our tour guide, and his co-worker even offered their own coats and scarfs to make sure we were comfortable. The first stop was at a memorial of Plessy V. Fergusson, I won't give a spoiler here. I'll just say Nick's... More

More than 10 years post Katrina the devastation in the 9th ward is still palpable. The rescuers' "X" on many homes still visible. Plenty of re-growth has happened and is very encouraging. The devastation still very prevalent is a reminder of what happened. Take plenty of pictures. You will want to share with your friends back home No words can... More

We did this tour in December with our 2 teenagers (13 and 16 and generally pretty lazy). The pace of the ride was leisurely. There are no hills except a mild bridge approach. The leader of the tour, Jeff, had a ton of knowledge, enthusiasm and pride about New Orleans. We learned a lot. The bikes are one speed (what... More

Great guidance and passionately informative. See the "bad news" place in a whole different light and see what a community can do in spite of nay Sayers. Best of all.....fun!

This is a must do for anyone!! The morning was perfect thanks to Derek. We met and left on time from Washington Square. Derek is a native and had lots of info to share in his own quirky style. The route was easy on the legs and eyes. Lots of places to stop and get some info and continue. Lunch... More

Brought to the world's attention ten years ago by way of disaster, an area of New Orleans that previously may not have received much notice from tourists is now a neighbourhood in the city that many know by name... but not much else outside of those old news clips. This tour will change that in a dignified way that avoids... More

Of all my visits to New Orleans, I never visited the lower 9th, an area so destructed by Katrina, and still in recovery mode. The bike tour through this area was very informative and eye opening. Our tour guide Nick was excellent and being a resident of the neighborhood himself, has very in depth knowledge. Our tour also included a... More

It had to have been the hottest day in July ever in Nola but our family had a blast. You couldn't have asked for a better tour guide than Nick who is smart, witty, and very passionate about his job. The people of the 9th Ward were friendly and interesting and there were lots of unique houses and sites. We... More

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighborhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
