See not only the damage from Hurrican Katrina, but the uplifting rebuilding; and more importantly, why the neighborhood needed to survive. We'll visit the levee, learn about the musical culture, and meet Ronald Lewis, local historian and curator of the House of Dance and Feathers. Definitely an unforgettable day. « less

One of the highlights of our 3 state southern tour. We echo so many of the other comments made by other reviewers. Derrick was an engaging and informative guide and the stop in to meet Mr. Lewis was so special. What an incredible man with a fascinating life story and wonderful messages to share. A bit more history at each... More

Echoing the other comments regarding this tour, I also must say that it was among the best few hours spent during my week in NOLA. Our guide Jeff had everything figured-out and put everyone at ease from the get-go. I hadn't been on a bike in about 7 years, but five minutes in I was fine ("…it's like riding a... More

The bike tour was one of the highlights of our stay in New Orleans. Derek is passionate about his home town and was able to answer all questions posed. This is definitely not a 'look at what Katrina did' tour and there was never an issue of feeling unsafe. The tour travels through many wards and you get to see... More

This was an excellent tour that provided a way to engage with parts of the city that would otherwise remain out of reach. Travelling by bike provided a non-intrusive way for visitors to meet and learn more from the community themselves. Derek was a great tour guide and Mr Lewis at the House of Dance and Feathers was so very... More

Such an enlightening experience. Our guide, Nick, was excellent! I base this on knowledge, preparation, personality, connection to the community. Bikes were in great shape and the community was welcoming and inspiring. I learned so much and had a great time too! So worth your time and money.

This tour was the highlight of our stay in New Orleans. The about 4 hour bike tour will take you to the lower 9th ward, a neighborhood that was severely affected by hurricane Katrina. However, this tour is not about disaster tourism, it's about a community, its history and how it recovered from the hurricane. You will hear about the... More

The 1/2 day we spent with Derek was fun, informative and a great way to see and learn about parts of New Orleans that we otherwise wouldn't have. We liked the stories, the history and the opportunity to ask questions. The House of Dance and Feathers was great and the po' boy lunch very good as well. I would certainly... More

Derek was a great guide. Loved visiting the neighborhoods and learning the history. Not a huge fan of the price. When you consider lunch, visit to the house of feathers, and the bar stop at the end of the tour, you're easily spending upwards of $100 per person.

My husband, 13 yr old and I did this tour today with Derek. Everything was handled professionally, from the emails beforehand to book, directions to the meeting spot, solid, safe bikes and a knowledgeable, entertaining guide. He has some other bike tours in the works and I would book them in a heartbeat. We started up on Royal St near... More

This is the best way to see the Lower 9th Ward. We felt we had a much better understanding of what happened in 2005 after listening to Derrick explain. He lives in the neighborhood and knows LA history.
