The hurricanes here are fabulous! We've been to New Orleans many times over many years but just recenlty discovered Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop (due to TA reports). Its hurricanes are far superior to Pat O'Brien's (and we've always liked theirs!). And the ambience is a step way back in time. more

Went there with my husband on our last evening in New Orleans. Walking in, the bar looks old, dark and spooky - definitely a place you could see a pirate hiding out! Asked the bartender if we could sit anywhere, she told me yes, they have table service. Great. 5 minutes go by, and another couple sits near us. The... more

Lafittes Blacksmith Shop and Bar is a really cool place towards the end of Bourbon st. I went during Mardi Gras, so it was pretty packed and they had the jukebox blaring. I think this place would be awesome to visit when things aren't so crazy - it's dark and creepy inside, and at night they have a piano player... more

This bar is the oldest bar in the USA. It is small, dark (and very cold when i was there) but it has more atmosphere then any other bar i've been in. You can imagine the pirates drinking there years ago! If you just want a simple bar with atmosphere and some background gather-round-the-piano music, then try this bar out.... more

Whenever in New Orleans we always stop at Lafitte's Blacksmith shop. The whole place was lit with candles only which was great. Lots of history, suppose to be the oldest bar in New Orleans. We sat at the piano bar listening to some great music. It's a ways down from the busy, crowded area of Bourbon street but an easy... more

In 1980 while touring in Camelot with Richard Burton, danser Byarne Buchtrap took me to Lafitte's. At that time you knocked and an imposing man cracked the door and asked "Whata ya want?" Byarne smiled at him and said "We came for the piano bar". He let us in and led us to a room behind the tiny bar. In... more

My husband and I went here on our last night in NOLA and it was worth it! If you go, definitely get the Voodoo daiquiri. It is THE only place to get them in town, and anywhere! Make sure you get it in a souvenir Lafitte's cup, then you don't have to spend $15.00 on a tshirt. If you like... more

My old college roomate, who is at Tulane Law, told me we have to go to Lafitte's for a drink. He told me that they serve a beverage much more potneted than a hurricane of hand grenade. It is called a Purple. He said many of his classmates go down to the quarter order one or two of these to... more

It's a dark, little bar, which may have some history behind it. There's nothing to see here. They couldn't make margaritas because the machine wasn't ready, so we just left. more

We recently visited New Orleans for a three-day trip, and of all the watering holes we visited I have to say Lafitte's was clearly our favorite. We made it a point to stop in each night. It was the first AND last bar we visited on our trip. Our first stop was during the afternoon of our first day. I... more
