We'd always passed this small place by before when we were in Madison, but we're very glad we stopped in. The exhibit of Mexican art was especially exciting. The shows and collections aren't huge, but that makes it easy to view and absorb what's on display. We skipped the shop, so I can't comment on that, but I'll be back... More

We loved the contemporary art in the Chazem Museum of Art, but this place left us a bit cold. They tend to have edgy art which is a bit preachy - in your face. But that seems to be the norm in contemporary art today. Admission is free!

If you are expecting Monet, or the like, you will not find it here. All art shown here is truly contemporary. Worth the stop in to see examples of some of the main contemporary artist of this century. Currently, this is free due to an endowment by an unknown benefactor.

Currently showing great displays of collage and mexican art. However, 'security' were very active when nearing an exhibit and shop didn't stock examples of what was on dispaly.

I was impressed by the glass stairway of MMOCA. The current exhibit, the Wisconsin Triennial wasn't too impressive, but the building itself is worthy of a Very Good. There was an excellent video of dance artists describing and demonstrating what a "fall" meant to them. And admission is free.

The museum itself could be one of the best keep secrets in Madison when it come to affordable entertainment for a family or an individual. Yes, the admission is free year round and you get way, way more than you should ever expect for free.. Exhibits are always changing, the staff is friendly and helpful. If you need a unique... More

MMoCA is a must-stop when on State Street. Besides the fact that they have intriguing exhibits (right now, for example, the Ellsworth Kelly Prints show is a wake-up call for your eyes with its bold color!), there’s also a gift shop with a plethora of wallet-tempting items you won’t find anywhere else as well as a rooftop sculpture garden (a... First, the location of the museum is just so accessible. We just wandered in from State Street as we were going to UW to watch the fireworks display. The two exhibits were intriguing and well put together. As I said, I'm not into art, but I might become a convert if I lived in Madison.

A wonderful museum displaying art for various artists. An area for children to learn about art. A rooftop sculpture area with a few pieces on display. Close to the Capital and other attractions. Lots of metered multi level parking garages in the area.
