Madison's major performing arts center, built at great cost by generous contributors as well as public money, is a bit of a lost opportunity. Despite a name architect it is totally undistinguished on the outside, just a mashup of three unrelated older buildings (part of Madison's fetish for preserving anything old, regardless of merit). The interior is an impressive but... More

Went to see an opera and the exhibitions during the International Festival Weekend. The performance was fantastic. Great artwork exhibited all throughout the building. The employees are always attentive and polite and welcoming. The building's architecture is beautiful. They also host private events. If you are visiting the city or live here be sure to attend a performance or just... More

So many different theatres and great shows in each and every one of them. Plus, most of the Overture Center is open to explore. You can walk in the Rotunda and even go up and explore by the Promenade Lounge and Wisconsin Studio. It's a great building.

I really like the way that the old Civic Center was reborn as the Overture Center. The theaters and seating are outstanding and I've gone with my wife to see Young Frankenstein, Evil Dead, Anthony Bourdain, Les Miserables, Book of Mormon, and taken my daughter to see the live action version of Dinosaur Train. So, as you can see, they... More

This is awesome and not-so-great at the same time. The theater is designed so that if you are up higher, you can have the sense of falling forward, but the rail is very short and the space is tight, so when someone walks in front of you, it's very awkward for all involved. Go higher, and you can see the... More

In the interest of full disclosure: I was one of a dozen house managers for the Overture Center for many years. I’m now retired. Most important piece of advice – Get There Early!!! Second important piece of advice – If the driver is going to drop you off, give the driver a ticket and keep the rest for the group.... More

You don't have to travel to New York to go to a top quality theatre. The sound is wonderful and the seating is great! I have gone to musicals, plays and shows. What a great addition to the Madison area!

Overture has events for all ages and all interests. Some are free--like Kids in the Routunda on Saturday mornings from October to April.

If you're traveling to Madison and looking for that place where comedians, speakers, orchestras, plays, concerts... this is it. It is beautiful (designed by some fancy architect), and very comfortable. It is top notch.

The Overture Center is a beautiful building and offers some amazing options for shows. My favorite so far was the Blue Man Group! There's something for everyone, and tickets are relatively affordable. I would recommend seeing a show if you're in town!
