The orchestra is wonderful as is the beautiful capital square but it is difficult to hear the music as it seems that most people are there to socialize, not listen to music. What a shame.

Music, beer, picnic and friends all in the center of town. All this coupled with a wisconsin summers evening and the sight of the capitol building's reflection on neighboring office building.

Concerts on the square are one of the best experiences to take in in Madison during the summer time. Plan to get there early or have someone set out your blanket early to find a good spot on the grass. Most people go to sip some wine, chat, enjoy the weather and the restaraunts on the square.

Bring a blanket, a picnic, sit in an outdoor café or at "the tables" up front. On the lawn of one of the prettiest capitol buildings in the world, listen to music, people watch, babies, grandma's - everyone comes at least once. Free and fun, and you can enjoy the shade of the trees, the statues, the building and the... More

The concerts are fantastic, but despite numerous signs posted the audience needs to talk during the concert.

This is an enjoyable event the whole family can attend. Bring a lunch or snack, or purchase something available from the many vendors.

This is a long standing tradition and with good reason - wonderful music, friendly environment, great selection of food and a beautiful backdrop of the state capitol. And you can show up just before the concert begins because there are numerous speakers set up so you don't have to be right near the orchestra and there is always room on... More

On the evening we were there, the Madison orchestra performed the works of John Denver and Dan Fogelberg. Vocalists were great and orchestra was very Boston Pops-like. Fun evening in front of the beautiful State Capitol building in downtown Madison.

The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra performs on the Square free of charge about 4 times during the summer. Patrons bring a picnic dinner and their blankets or special lawn chairs when they attend this event. If you like you can purchase food from the many vendors that are nearby. The music is first rate and very professional. I've never been disappointed... More
