FREE to anyone, this annual event runs a few weeks through the summer months, always on Wednesday evenings. Enjoy the music on the lawn of the State Capitol Building (and have some wine with your picnic.) Highly rated, even for non-symphony lovers.

I used to go to the Concerts on the Square regularly, maybe 10-15 years ago, but over the years, I have gradually gone less frequently to almost never now. Too much a good thing is not always wonderful and it really knows what it is now and really has lost any charm or uniqueness it once had. It's down to... More

You sit on the lawn on a beautiful summer night, have a picnic and relax to the sounds of the symphony.

Concert on the square can be romantic, family orientated, friends gathering or whatever you want it to be. You can bring a blanket and sit on the lawn and have a picnic, or pull up a chair and a table and have a meal prepared for you and everything in between. Local vendors sell food and beer if you chose... More

Every performance is unique. The WI Chamber Orchestra provides such an incredible show, in a completely unusual setting. Fun for everyone. You haven't been to Madison until you've been to COTS.

Music is performed on the Capitol grounds. Food vendors or bring your own and enjoy. Parking can be difficult so get down there early.

Get there early and buy food and beverages, spread your picnic blankets and ENJOY! Also, this is Free... but I always donate $ (through the mail and) at the concerts for the programs. Outstanding programming this summer. Crazy good stuff - check it out on their website.

Everyone know Concerts on the Square in Madison. That is where we spend our summer Wednesday night. Friendly people, beautiful sign, the breezy, the music, the small talk with friends, and it was free.

Instead it is time to have an extensive and lively conversation with your party. I wish it was like Ravina in Highland Park, Illinois, where Ravinia staff go around in the crowd during an outdoor classic concert to remind them people are their for the music and not to hear a conversation. I gave up going.

This was one of my Madison highlights. The entire town goes out on the lawn with picnic blankets, tables, chair, tableclothas and evn center ieces to enjoy music. The night I attended the WU Orchestra performed Tchaicovsky. On this particular evening it is permitted to drink around the Square, so bring along a bottle. Food is sold from booths. I... More
