This past year at Concerts was the best! We like to go with a group of people and socialize with the music being in the background so we position ourselves away from the crowd. The variety of food, restaurants and outdoor seating is incredible. Once the music stops it's hard to go home!

Have been going to these concerts for years now with either family, friends or both. Working downtown I have an advantage to getting a prime location, but any spot on the Capitol lawn will be good for hearing the music. It is always fun to see what people bring for their picnics, from very casual to quite elaborate. A must-do... More

Great place to sit outside, enjoy the warm weather, listen to nice music, and nosh a bit. You can even put your blanket down at 3pm (or earlier!) to save your spot, and no one will mess with it!

So many people attend these free outdoor concerts that it seems everyone in Madison (and beyond) is here on balmy summer evenings. Despite the packed Wisconsin Capitol grounds, there's always space to spread your blanket and have a summer picnic while enjoying the music of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. Even if you can't see the musicians, the sound system is... More

This is a good summertime activity and a nice way to get together with friends for a little wine and food before the music on the beautiful Capitol lawn. Not a place for purists -- people will talk and walk around when the music is playing -- just enjoy it for what it is. Kick back, bring a camp chair... More

Everyone in Madison, and many visitors as well, come to listen to the Madison Symphony play outdoors at the Capitol for eight Wednesdays each year. Although most people try to get as close as possible to the music, there are speakers on all sides of the Capitol, so I relax with friends where there is more space. Bring a blanket,... More

A wonderful way to spend a Wednesday evening in Madison. Live concerts in front of the state capitol. Lots of room to spread out and enjoy a picnic while listening.

Many of my friends love the CoS (concerts on the square). I do not. The musical selections are of the Pops variety; people talk, open cans of soda, and make all kinds of noise during the music, and unless you are in just the right place, you cannot see the orchestra. I don't get it. People drag their dinner, blankets,... More

Madison Symphony orchestra never disappoints. Lovely atmosphere, bring your picnic, wine, basket, and get there early to put a blanket on the lawn ( 3-4 PM) of the State Capitol. There is also an area where those needing chairs, can bring their own, or you can reserve a table for a cost. Lovely time.

If you live in Madison you already know about the concerts...If you are coming to visit in the summer DONT MISS THIS. It is a tremendous experience to hear a first class orchestra for free in the beautiful back drop of the capital.
