There is a fair number of homeless people that sleep around the square and the church nearby but they usually leave you alone. Other than that, it's a great block to walk around, the Capital building itself is beautiful but I'll review that on its own. In the summer, the weekend after the 4th of July, there is an event... Fabulous farmer's market held here during clement weather, and "clement" means a whole different thing in Wisconsin. I've seem 'em out there during snow and wind and other weathers that would shame a New Yorker.

Wisconsin's Capitol building is one of the most spectacular in the nation and a not-to-be missed attraction. It's especially fun for kids during the holidays, as the Capitol always has a great big holiday tree and displays of kids' artwork, etc. for the holidays. The building is steeped in history and it's well worth getting a guided tour. Perhaps you... More

Expensive clothing stores, good food, homeless people asking for money. Farmers market was fun on Saturday morning.

The Captial Square area is quite lovely. The landscaping around the capital is beautiful and if you are looking for places to eat or shop they are numerous. The Old Fashioned restaurant is across from the capital and is a fabulous place to eat. The only draw-back is that after dark the homeless come out and sleep on the streets... More

A well planned downtown area with the State Capitol placed in the middle. Don't miss to go all the way up and visit the observation deck with a great view over one of the nicest Capitols in the United States.

Walking around the square during the fall season is not to be missed. On Wednesday there is also the morning farmers market on Martin Luther King Blvd. It's a must to get a little lunch from a food cart on the square and sit on the capital lawn or one of the many benches. I can highly recommend 2 food... More

Downtown Madison is unlike any other downtown I've visited. It's beautiful. There are so many things to do and see in the area. Definitely go to the Saturday Market on the Square, it's awesome.

Capital square has several nice places for photos, Saturday morning farmer's market a must from mid-April to mid-November. Lots of good restaurants line the square, as well as theater only a block off (Bartell and Overture)
