Pleasant open space around the Capitol allowing excellent views and photo opportunuties. Not much happening in immediate vicinity with little by way of restaurants or other facilities - in fact was very quiet business and tourist wise at time of visit - but still worth seeing - but don't miss visit to the Capitol itself or walk down to lake.

The square is great any time of year, but really comes alive during the Saturday morning farmer's market held there April through October (or maybe mid November?) There were many things to see and do around the square. The Capitol makes a nice backdrop for photos.

Nothing to write home about. Just a square, always a bit empty looking, but there is a farmers' market on weekends in the summer. Definitely not a tourist attraction in itself though.

Great restaurants and bars offering various menus to please all tastes. Interesting shops offering local cheeses and specialty shops with something for everyone.

Nice to walk in the day time. Good people watching. I would not do at night. Safer in the daytime. best time is Noon Hour

Wonderful place on a Saturday for the market. Lots of people, great crowd and energy. And the location along an isle between two bodies of water is one-of-a-kind.

The capitol is a must see if you visit Madison. Tours run daily and it's an impressive structure to say the least. You can get through it in an hour, which leaves you plenty of time to take in State Street, have lunch or dinner at The Old Fashioned, walk to the Monona Terrace or visit other Madison area attractions.

The capitol square is beautiful, some nice shops and just a great place to stop and have a cup of coffee. when the farmers market is out there it is even better. had a nice view of the capitol and the square from where we dined
