Great place to have a walk around. Plenty of delicious, locally sourced restaurants to choose from, or you can picnic on the capital grass. There are many festivals, parades, fairs, concerts, and farmer's markets hosted here throughout the summer. A key attraction in Madison!

The Capitol Square is a great place to spend time, especially on Saturdays when they have the Farmers Market on all the sidewalks surrounding the building, lots of fresh produce, flowers, other vendors, and various food trucks to try different cuisine. Lots of places on the square to relax in the shade or for photo opportunities, we saw several wedding... More

Walking and taking in the sites, smells, and never ending activities. Take in weekend festivals, music, and the Farmer's Market on Saturdays. Near a walk along the lake!

Great place to visit! The Capitol is the center of the square, with places to sit everywhere. Farmer's Market is set all around the square from April-Oct. Restaurants and shopping encircle the square. Lake Monona (walk down to the Monona Terrace) and Lake Mendota are short walks north or south of the Capitol square.

It was a Wed. evening and we walking around the UW campus and came upon a nice little jazz concert there. It felt a little loud and I would have been ok had it not been for the beggars approaching us all the way up State Street.

This is a great area to walk around. Go inside and walk around the beautiful Capital, which was built to look like the White House! It is an absolute gorgeous setting!

The Capitol Square is not only the site of the architecturally elaborate state capitol, but the landscaped grounds provide the backdrop for an array of community events. Every Saturday throughout the summer, the Capitol Square hosts the largest true Farmers' Market in the country. Produce, flowers and people fill the Square with happy camaraderie. Each July, the Capitol Square hosts... More

Nothing more, nothing less. You'll find a variety of venues - be it bars/restaurants or specialty shops - but it's prime real estate and reflected in prices to compensate for high rents. Besides, you're in the shadow of Scott Walker's gestapo (called the Capitol Police! Best to head to the W. Main St spots!
