The Wisconsin State Capitol Square is the pride of Wisconsin. It plays host a great Farmers Market in the summer, as well as many parades. There is an array of great eating spots from farm to table establishments or just relax in a famous Wisconsin bar and grill. State St, connects the Capitol to one of the best big 10... More

Farmers Market, symphony on the square, ironman Madison, walks, shops, Veterans Museum, gallery, restaurants, biking. Lots to do here! Definitely a fun place to visit and walk around. There is lots of public transportation but if you drive plan extra time for parking.

Madison’s Capitol Square is full of history -- architectural and otherwise. Around the Capitol building are a great variety of restaurants and shops. Also, just walk a bit off the Capitol Square and you will find State Street, which links the seat of government to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. If you have on your walking shoes, you will find many... More

Spend the afternoon checking out the stores on State Street, take the tour of the capital building and then eat on the square.

Went to the museums and then to the capital. As always capital staff was super helpful and a lot of fun for the kids. Christmas tree was neat. There were some clowns protesting the Gov. World is full of losers. Disrupting in an otherwise very nice day. Go Walker!!

If you like architecture and the beauty of craftsmanship, the capital has it all. Surrounding the capital during warm months is the farmers market on weekends and great local food destinations at all times of the year.

You can walk right in folks, don't be scared. Marvel at the lovely painted ceilings. Experience the cold emanating off the marble. See where awful laws are passed! This is where democracy purchased by special interests lives. Then go walk down State St. because that is the cliche tourist thing to do, even though State St. is just chain stores... More

We visited the market on the first weekend of real snow- they moved the market indoors to the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. So that was a bonus- great views and the cheese curds were the best.

There is a fair number of homeless people that sleep around the square and the church nearby but they usually leave you alone. Other than that, it's a great block to walk around, the Capital building itself is beautiful but I'll review that on its own. In the summer, the weekend after the 4th of July, there is an event... Fabulous farmer's market held here during clement weather, and "clement" means a whole different thing in Wisconsin. I've seem 'em out there during snow and wind and other weathers that would shame a New Yorker.
