Madison is a great city for food and sightseeing and the best is done on Campus! For great free fun, be sure to visit the UW dairy in Babcock to see them making ice cream (and then sample it at the Daily Scoop in either Union), visit the geology museum (Dayton st), walk the Lakeshore path out to Picnic Point... Walk up Bascom Hill and see where ALL of the Uiversity used to be found. Now? Spread over miles along the lake, but Bascom Hill's the heart of a great place for an education.

Beautiful campus, lively all year long, on the lake, many outdoor activities in the warmer months, the best football stadium in the land, and all right in the midst of the capitol and all that also entails (superb food in all varieties and prices), art, music, etc.

I'd definitely second the recommendation to grab a beer (or cold drink of your choice) at the Rathskeller and sip it on the patio overlooking the lake. It's a lovely way to while away a summer afternoon.

Babcock hall has a branch store at the Memorial Union (on Lake Mendota). The single servings are really big and there are many flavors of icecream to choose from.

The UW-Madison is conveniently located in the city and reaches to the shores of Lake Mendota. It's well-kept buildings and grounds make for a great run or stroll through campus. One of my favorite places to go in Madison is the Memorial Union and Terrace where you can sit inside or outside to enjoy a view of the lake, a... More

Took my teens to walk the Madison Campus and was very impressed with it's beauty and size. The area appreared safe, the streets were clean and there were lots of students and visitors walking around enjoying the day. Plenty of cool stores and local shops lined the streets to keep us busy for the day.

Madison, WI, is a great place to visit in the summer. 80 degree weather, light breeze, blue sky! Attended a conference at UW. Stayed in Ogg Hall which was very convenient for walking to our meetings in the building across the street. Conveniently, the dining hall was in the same building as the meetings. A couple of notes 1) the... More
