Whether you crave swimming, boating, fishing sunbathing or biking, Vilas Park has you covered. Winter is still worthy of a visit, with skating on tap. The adjacent Vilas Zoo is wonderful, and free too.

Oh my, one of the nicest parks in the state, if not country! First it has a FREE zoo, a beach, running/walking paths, fishing on the lake, picnic areas, playgrounds for kids, tons of grassy fields and walking paths all over the place. Whether it's winter, spring, fall or summer, there is always someone in this park--fishing, running, walking, skating... More

Pair this free park and arboretum with the zoo across the lake for a fine morning or afternoon. You can drive in but not through from either end. On rare occasions the gate between the 2 sides is open to automobile traffic, otherwise you have to backtrack, except bicycles and foot traffic.

Zoos are rarely on my agenda, so I'm not mentioning the one here, though I know many do enjoy and appreciate it. Instead, I'm recalling fondly, this 40+ acre mid-city park along Lake Wingra's north shore often provided a close-by refuge from constant campus bustle, way back when--usually I'd continue my jaunts all the way through the adjoining UW-Arboretum. Nowadays... More

A great park for walks and quiet weekends. The arboretum and the zoo nearby offers alternatives if you get bored. The lake has some nice, scenic views. If you want a break form the city; make sure to make it to this beautiful park for a day getaway.

There are places for kids to play about; the nearby zoo is lovely. There are swings and grassy areas to kick balls. A place for all seasons!

Cute park with a nice little pond. You can see fish swimming around if you stand on the bridge and look down. It would be a nice park to have a picnic. They have some tables and it's a nice looking area.

This is a cute park. We had scooters and our son had his bike so we checked out the trails. Nice scenery by the lake. Definitely worth a look. The park is connected to the zoo so you can walk right over and get into the zoo for free.

We took a walking food tour with Madison Food Explorers (the Monroe Street tour) and learned a lot about Vilas Park and the neighborhood. Learned about the UW Arboretum and why there are no houses on the other side of Lake Wingra. It was nice to see everyone out -- it is a well-used park with beautiful houses on Vilas... More

Vilas Park is a great park to go to. It's right next to Vilas Zoo and by the lake and Arboretum. There's two children parks within it and open fields for sports as well as a ponds. It's a nice place to walk, run/jog, and bring your children and pets to. There's also a lot of parking around the park.... More
