This is a beautiful little zoo set on a wonderful lakefront setting. The cost is donation only, so please remember what you pay at other zoos for admission when putting your money in the donation jars. This zoo has animals in natural habitats and really dose a good job of keeping the areas clean. There are several places to grab... More

This a free zoo with a surprising variety of animals. They just recently opened a new area for their Grizzly Bears (who were quite cute), seals and polar bears. However when we visited the polar bears were off exhibit for the morning we visited. We had thought we might eat lunch there at the new indoor seating that overlooked the... More

I go to the Vilas Zoo all the time! Most of the time I bring my 10 year old son, who loves it! Sometimes, I go alone just because I'm in that part of town. It's great to walk along the lakeshore to one end of the zoo, enter, and walk back through the zoo to where I started. I... More

Really enjoyed the visit to the Vilas Zoo. It made for a very relaxing day. Especially enjoyed the new bear facility.

Zoo opens at 9:00a, but parking is gone by 8:30a, so get there early for a good parking spot. The exhibits are well maintained and the zoo is well laid out. The new Arctic Passage area is expertly developed, but due to the free admission and newness of it, there is minimal room to get around in the area. The... More

Only thing bad about a free zoo is the lack of parking! but, we managed to get a spot about a block away. the prices for food was a little high, but food was pretty good considering it was a zoo! we were lucky with weather being pretty good and cool. grandkids loved it!

We had a great day of fun at this zoo while visiting in the Madison WI area. The zoo was free (donations were accepted). There was a nice selection of animals and the zoo was well kept. I would definitely recommend.

The grounds were well kept and nice to walk around for the afternoon. They have a limited number of animals, but sufficient. It was a great, free activity for the afternoon.

We always have a great time at this zoo. Yes it is small and can be a little pricey if you get food but still the very best free zoo I have ever seen. Considering that I have traveled all over the US and traveled to several other countries this is a MUST SEE!

A wonderful free resource for Madison visitors and residents alike. A large zoo with polar bears, lions, primates, birds, and all sorts of charming and exotic creatures, on nice days filled with happy children and adults.
