We were at the Memorial Union Terrace. The view was beautiful. Kids on the dock, sail boats! But there was an underlying smell from the algae. Too bad they can not get this cleaned up.

We picked up bikes that you can rent from public stands all over the City in anticipation of a ride along the lake. Unfortunately, in most places you cannot actually get to the lake because of the private houses fronting onto the lake. At almost the far eastern side of the lake (Tenney Park) is a beach with a lifeguard... More

Every inch of shoreline is fun to explore. Lake is well used all year long. Sunsets amazing. Find your paradise here.

Beautiful lake but SkipperBuds has the monopoly in renting a pontoon boat. In all my years of boating, I've never been charged a fee for damaging anything on a boat until now. It seemed suspect to me when 2 employees were talking back and forth how much should they charge for a damaged prop. $20? $40? $40 it is. All... More

I would have to say this is a very nice cruise for the right guests. It is not very user friendly for some seniors. You have to walk a long pier with no railing to get out the Van Rutenburg's yacht for your luncheon cruise of the lake. The lunch was great, and you can purchase drinks, cocktails etc. If... More

Took my pontoon out for the first time on this lake. It was a Wednesday and only a few boats were on the water. We cruised the shoreline and looked at some of Madison's nicest homes. The lake was calm. The sun shining. It's a fairly large lake. It was easy to launch from Governor Nelson State Park. The park... More

Lake Mendota - seems like it will be great, hmm? Actually, the water is green and full of algae. Walking past, it smelled like an animal had died in that water. I would never swim in it. Madison needs to start cleaning up it's lakes.

I visit this lake each time I am in Madison. They have wonderful walking, jogging and biking trails around this lake. Its easy to navigate and I have always felt very safe regardless of the time of day.

There are great efforts underway in Madison to maintain the lakes, and they are needed. Comparing Madison to other metropolitan areas with lakes, Lake Mendota is under-developed. There have been times we've walked along the lake and found literally scores of dead fish floating along the shore. The lake is naturally beautiful and many people boat on it; it has... More
