We recently took our grand kids tubing on the lake. They loved it. We took them on a weekday afternoon and the lake was not busy. We put the boat in at Governor Nelson State Park on the north side of the lake without any problems. There are several restaurants on the lake that are boat accessible. This is really... More

Madison does itself a dishonor by not taking greater advantage of it's beautiful lakes. They could be a far better tourism asset than they are. Limited restaurants on the lake, limited boat rentals. So many other Midwestern cities do a better job.

The weather was beautiful. The water was clear and delightful. The lake is huge, so it wasn't crowded with boats. It was a lovely day to spend a summer day.

Lake Mendota is a nice sized lake for whatever you want to do on the water....sailing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc.

Nice large lake, plenty of room for skiing, etc (if the water is not too rough). Fantastic view of Madison and the university.

Watching the sun set along Lake Mendota is a treat, especially from great vantage points such as the Union Terrace, Observatory Drive, or Tenney Park. The lake itself, however, gets progressively more gross as the summer carries on with all sorts of algae and other things growing. Certain places, like the little beach on Picnic Point, can be nice most... More

beautiful lake with 25 mile circumference. Great sailing, power boating, views. Not so great for swimming due to agricultural runoff which they are in the process of trying to control with biodigesters, no phosphorus in fertilizers, etc. University of Wisconsin built all along the lakeshore with Memorial Union Terrace a classic spot to relax, view the scenic sailboats, listen to... The lake was great. Watching people in sailboats and others just taking in the views . It was a beautiful way to enjoy the evenings.

Really nice lakeside path by the UW campus for strolling or jogging. The views, especially on Picnic Point, are terrific. Free weekend parking at Picnic Point. The path hasn't changed much since we were there 50 years ago. We used to rent canoes near the student union (looks like you can rent kayaks now?), Brought back great memories when walked... More

we walked the lake shore path at the university of WI all the way to Picnic Point. The terrace is a great place to view the lake. I saw one bridge on the path where it indicated you can fish.
