Chazen Museum (formerly known as the Elvehjem Museum) in the middle of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus, has a world class collection of Modern and Contemporary Art works which would not be out of place at the Tate Modern in London or the Beauburg Museum in Paris. Equally impressive is their collection of Japanese woodcuts, the core of which originated... More

Rarely brings in outstanding pieces and shows. Old art of the Romantic period or Baroque is not present very much.

I was not expecting much from this museum upon entering, but there are so many rooms with a variety of artwork. I will definitely return, since I did not make it through all of the exhibits- and they also have collections that change regularly so it's a great place to put on your Madison visit itinerary :)

For this, and two other recent visits, we had a specific reason to visit: the illuminated, handwritten Bible commissioned by Saint John's University and Abbey in Minnesota. Masterfully executed, spiritually touching and thought-provoking. We almost always spend at least two hours at each visit to the Chazen, often bringing friends. This was no different. Docents, when they are available, and... More

All walks of art entertainment. Modern facility with an array of mediums to enjoy. Rotating exhibits, so come often through the year.

This was my first time visiting the Chazen and I was pleasantly surprised. The guards were extremely knowledgeable and friendly, the exhibits were varied and interesting and it is conveniently located minutes from the Capital and State Street. Even without an explicit interest in the featured exhibits or artists, it is still an excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon

The Chazen was much larger than expected. They have a nice variety of modern and regional art. It's a nice place to spend an afternoon. You can't beat free either.

The newly remodeled Chazen Museum of Art features innovative exhibits and a diverse permanent collection. Admission is free, and the museum is small enough to be seen in a few hours and large enough to make those hours enjoyable.

Great collection -- always free admission; it's usually not crowded and you have plenty of time and space to appreciate the beautiful art they've amassed for you. Absolutely worth going.

The Chazen Museum of Art is stunning. Free admission. Very courteous guards. I felt as though I was getting joyfully lost inside. The space is remarkable, and each gallery area contains a brilliant interplay of 2D/wall-mounted visual art and free-standing/sculptural works. I overheard a group of fourth graders guided by one of the staff, and she was doing a fantastic... More
