A university collection, but much larger and more varied than I expected. The new space apparently lets them show much more of their collection. Much modern art, very well placed and the galleries are easy to move through. Guards were all but invisible and this really helps to enjoy the art without the feeling of supervision. Great island of quiet... More

This is a really nice museum with some very good paintings. We went on a Thursday and were practically the only people in the entire museum! There's lots to look at, so it doesn't get boring either.

newly added building greatly expands art museum, and gives it a modern, hip vibe. surprised by the the variety of works and the presence of famous artists like chirico, j. johns and many more. diverse, topical, and includes large and refreshing lobby. a hit !!

With the addition of its new building, the Chazen has become a superb museum. The collection of modern and contemporary painting is outstanding, with representative works by many of the acknowledged masters: Pollock, Rothko, and others. The museum is well worth a visit, and--with its proximity to State Street--it is close to many good restaurants and shopping opportunities.

Take a guided tour if you can, or go to an opening and hear the artists discuss their work. It gives a whole new dimension to seeing the art. Good gift shop too. Right in the heart of campus and not far from easy parking at the lake st. ramp.

Just visited the Chazen Museum and wasn't sure what to expect since it was on the UW campus and free. I was impressed with not only the large collection of works by student and local artists, but by the expansive collection of international pieces that date back several centuries.

This museum has a variety of temporary exhibits that are in over a few weeks or longer. There is a variety of artists and media. It is small enough to be able to view in a short time but big enough to give a sense of the artist/topic. The permanent exhibits include a variety of sculptures, paintings, mobiles and more.... More

The museum is free, but small. It doesn't take much time to get through, but exhibits rotate frequently. I would give this museum a pass if you have to drive to it because parking in this area of Madison is terrible!

The range of art here goes from ancient to contemporary. It is larger than many university art museums, and includes pieces by Vasari and Bernardo Strozzi and much much more. It's one of my favorite places in Madison.

Thoroughly enjoyed touring the art museum! Would highly recommend and would not hesitate to return as we ran out of time to see everything as well as we would have liked! Very nice!
