The Chazen Museum, the art museum of the University of Wisconsin, has a diverse collection, ranging from excellent classical Greek pottery, Asian art, some excellent American paintings, a spectacular print collection, a major collection of Japanese woodblock prints and Indian miniatures, etc. If you enjoy art, you'll want to put this on your schedule when visiting Madison.

I was here about 5 years ago, and they must have expanded since then. I spent about 4 hours looking at art here, having only planned on an hour. And I move quicker than most people do. There's a lot to absorb from many different genre. Some of it is very high quality, some of it questionable, perhaps a gift... More

Interesting works appear as mostly donated pieces. Sadly the 4th floor was closed to remodeling and half the 3rd floor closed for special music concert. Connects to the other side to access the modern art section. This is a nice spacious gallery. Quiet and cool on a hot summer day. Hard to think it is free... No bags..they have lockers.

This is a beautiful facility and a LARGE collection of art ... paintings, tapestries, furniture, statues, et al. There is so much to see but not much effort goes into explaining the various items. The description cards contain the artist and piece name, but little else. There are no resource tape guides to help you understand what you are seeing.... More

The Chazen Museum of Art is absolutely gorgeous. I think that rivals any art museum in many large metropolitan cities. If you haven't had the chance to go yet, please schedule some time to go and enjoy the lovely building and the beautiful art!

This museum is located on the UW Campus. It is a great art museum for anyone, regardless if they are the artsy type or the type that just tags along for something to do. There is an exhibit room where they have what I would called traveling exhibits. It's great because every time you go there is something differ the.... More
