This is an amazing collection of art right here in the state of Wisconsin! It was my first time visiting in all the years I've been coming to Madison. What a gem!

My wife and I love contemporary art and loved the collection here. The galleries are well lit and display the art pieces well. We take the time to visit museums all over the Country and the world and this museum is one of the best! And, guess what? There is no cost of admission!

This art museum is fabulous compared to any other art museum, not just university art museums. The extensive collection covers from ancient times to the present. There are even works by Warhol, Picasso and Lichtenstein. On Sundays, there are musicians.

I like the modernity of this place, but it was liking walking into a fortress, not an art museum. I thought the purpose of art is to excite the senses and thoughts of the viewer. That idea is not conveyed here.

Worth a trip. Very nice, large collection for a smaller city. And it is free! My only criticism is there is no information about the art included in the listing next to the painting or sculpture. So, for example, there were four examples of Russian Social realism, but other than the name of the artist and painting, there aren't any... More

We stopped in to see a cartography exhibit and checked out a few more galleries. We were not disappointed. A varied collection and a great stop any time in Madison.

Lots of nice art, very quiet, places to sit, lots to look at. What more would you want in an art museum? I think this is a very good place to go if you are interested in art, or just want something fun to do!

A university collection, but much larger and more varied than I expected. The new space apparently lets them show much more of their collection. Much modern art, very well placed and the galleries are easy to move through. Guards were all but invisible and this really helps to enjoy the art without the feeling of supervision. Great island of quiet... More

This is a really nice museum with some very good paintings. We went on a Thursday and were practically the only people in the entire museum! There's lots to look at, so it doesn't get boring either.

newly added building greatly expands art museum, and gives it a modern, hip vibe. surprised by the the variety of works and the presence of famous artists like chirico, j. johns and many more. diverse, topical, and includes large and refreshing lobby. a hit !!
