This museum is located on the UW Campus. It is a great art museum for anyone, regardless if they are the artsy type or the type that just tags along for something to do. There is an exhibit room where they have what I would called traveling exhibits. It's great because every time you go there is something differ the.... More

This museum is much larger than I would have expected for Madison and it is very conveniently located on University Avenue at the campus end of State Street. They have exhibits that span the history of art. Its free!

Most Sundays Wisconsin Public Radio broadcasts from the Chazen in the early PM, check there website, what is neat about this is it is free, but you can donate if you want and the Chazen itself is a free art museum too. It is really cool to spend some of the time in the actual concert and then wander a... More

This museum is free but worth paying for. They have a large collection and a nice variety of work from modern to renaissance. There was also a nice variety of displays from around the world. Well worth visiting.

The contemporary Chinese installation is wonderful. The Cuban photography was not like anything we had seen before. Permanent collection has unique features, especially the Russian art and the Mughal miniatures. And admission is free.

I'm definitely a lover of the arts. As a member at the Art Institute of Chicago, I can tell you that this museum's collection is impressive. They even have a couple of Picassos and a Botticelli(!). Best of all? It's free!

I wish I could speak the language of an art aficionado but that is not me. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the many paintings, sculptures, and exhibits. The museum was much larger than I anticipated. If you love art, be sure to visit and allow at least a couple of hours. There is ample parking nearby. If you are staying downtown,... More

Wonderful permanent collection with a variety of styles and periods. We had the pleasure of watching the resident artist, Ikeda Manabu, working on a large tryptic, which I recommend if you have the time.

I wasn't expecting much -- it's a college art museum, right? -- and breezed in with a 1/2 hr to spare. Wrong! This is an omnibus museum, 2 entire bldgs, 3 floors each, with art from the medieval period to now, with an emphasis on the modern. A lot of stuff you just don't see, like early modern, Dada, etc....
