The Horton Plains is a beautiful highland plateau 2200 m above sea level, with some excellent hikes in the high mountains. Sri Lanka’s second and third highest peaks, Kirigalpotta (2,395m) and Thotupola Kanda (2,357m), are located here and three major rivers, Mahawali, Kelani and Walawe originate from Horton Plains.

This was defiantly worth the drive to get here. What no one tells you is that if you get car sick the drive is horrendous. It's basically a bike path up the side of a mountain. We left Ella at 4.30 and arrived about 6:45. There were already lots of people on the path. the walk is relatively easy, the... More

We were hesitating between doing World's End and Adam's Peak - but since it was monsoon season (and anything that has more than 5,000 steps sounds incredibly daunting) we decided on World's End. We got there around 7.30 and it took us about 2h30 to complete the 9km walk. Going there meant we beat the crowd and part of the... More

This is a place where you should visit at least once in your lifetime. You can camp there. There is no sport activities there.

Heaven on Earth, Above is my simple statement. I have been here many times and has spent days on the ground. This a precious piece of land on Sri Lanka, situated in the center of the country in the high lands. The climate and geography is termed as cloud forest. Due to high altitude and location, clouds sweep through the... More

There's a lot of posts about needing to hire a different van to get there, and before the road was redone, it probably was very necessary. Now, I think it's more about preserving a job for local van drivers - which is also important. This savannah-type landscape is a beautiful contrast to the usual photos of Sri Lanka of tea... More

They give it a catchy name, but the view doesn't live up to it. The views on the drive to Nuwara Eliya are just as good. Hike is pleasant and easy if you can walk 9 km. Bakers waterfall also pretty, but nothing amazing. If you have the time and want a nice easy hike, do it. But I've seen... More
