What an outstanding find. The home of President and Mrs. Truman on Delaware Street is clearly one of the very best of a number of presidential homes I have visited. The reason is it is so "real" in every way. It is as if they left just yesterday or were just out at the market for a few minutes. The... More

The US government made a very smart move giving authority to operate tours through the home to the National Park Service when Bess Truman willed her house to the American people. They do a marvelous job keeping the home looking the ame way it did when Bess died and the day that the NPS took over. A park service employee... More

Arranging to see the house is difficult. Go to the Visitor Center first before planning anything else as you must get a timed ticket to see the house. We did that and were assigned a time an hour hence. Not much to do in Independence so we went to the museum and library for too brief a time. Our ranger... More

This home is preserved just as the President and Mrs. Truman lived and maintained it after they returned by train to Independence from Washington DC. It is part of the park system and a ranger gives the tours. Groups can be no larger than 8 at a time and adults only. The ranger we had was very knowledgeable and obviously... More

The tour guide was very informative, and we learned a lot. It was interesting to learn the ordinary beginnings of a man who became President of the US.

We took the tour given by the Park Service. Excellent tour that truly shows how the president lived out his days here. He had to have been one of the few presidents that was from common folk.

Be sure and review the NPS www before arriving so that you follow ALL the rules - specifically no weapons so leave your massive 1 inch pocket knife that Grandpa gave you in the car so you are not committing a felony. Go to the NPS center downtown to get tickets to tour the Truman house - no tickets available... More

We visited here kind of on a whim to fill time and were very pleasantly surprised! The house is not what one would picture a former president living in. The tour is for a small group, which was very nice, because it felt more personal. The tour guide was knowledgeable and personable. We would definitely go again if we are... More

Very nice visit back in time. Great to see the house as it was left by its residents. They were down to earth and their decor showed it. Nice jewel fir all to see.

This is a tour worth your time if you are at all interested in the Trumans, or in how we lived in the mid to late 20th Century. The house is really a preserved time capsule, willed to the people of the USA by Bess Truman, and cared for by the National Park Service. Tours are limited to 8 visitors,... More
