Just visited the Truman Library? I highly recommend taking a quick drive over to the National Historic Site to get a tour of Truman's house. You need to stop by the visitor center on main street to get tickets for the tour, where they've got a nice little video about the Trumans' life in Independence. That's where the gift shop... More

We got the tickets at the information center and went to the first tour of the day. The fellow giving the tour was very interesting and knew a lot about the president and associated information. I have read about Truman but seeing his home and also going to the family farm made the stories real. Well worth the visit.

it will make you wonder how he had to make the decisions that still reverberate to our lives currently and what effects us today for those decisions made between the beginning and ends of his term-arrrgggh!!!

Tours are limited to 8 persons, so be sure to buy tickets early in the day (at least during busy times). Our tour was led by a volunteer, rather than a ranger, but he did a nice job. It was great to see the home as it looked when Truman was living in it. Anyone who enjoys the Truman library... More

Great piece of history with home left as Mrs Truman left it. The calendar that she was using in the kitchen is still on the wall. Very personal experience. The national parks staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Very nice home.

A nice National Historic Site in Independence, Mo. It is definitely worth a stop! Also it is the stepping off point to several trails heading west. A very knowledgeable Ranger and support staff.

Make sure you go downtown to the corner of Truman and Main as soon as you get to Independence and get tickets for a later in the day tour of President and Mrs. Truman's home. A park guide will take you through their home that is relatively untouched from their residency. You'll see the downstairs as they saw it daily,... More

My wife, 10-year old daughter, & I loved the tour of the Truman Home. In fact, we all agreed it was more interesting & informative than the museum. This is the best $5/person bargain in Independence! We will definitely visit again!

Go to the Truman Visitor Center at 223 Main in Independence, $5 per adult. They also have a small gift shop and film there. Park across the street from the Visitor Center. Once you have your tickets, do what Harry often did. Go to the corner of Main and W Truman Road and walk left along W Truman Road five... More
