Truman history

Walk back in time when you enter the main entrance. I always feel as Bess and Harry are going to come through the door. Well preserved.

This was Truman's home for many years, and i was excited to see it. Disappointed to learn that we couldn't access many of the rooms, especially the upstairs. However, the guide was very informative and engaged in real conversation with our group.

Harry Truman is my favorite president and Bess is one of my favorite First Ladies, so it's been a dream of mine to visit their home in Independence. On a cross country trip with my 10 year old son, we made the pilgrimage to their home and the Presidential library and museum. I was not disappointed! I was enthralled. Our... More

The home of Harry and Bess Truman is a great example of a home suspended in time. The date of the house is just about when Harry died. It reminds of what the NPS did a Ike's farm in Gettysburg by leaving as these two presidents lived in it. The tickets must be purchased (unless you have a National Park... More

What a story about a great American President who didn't think of himself that way. He lived simply with wife and family, rose to make the important decisions required of him, then was able to go back to the simple life he enjoyed. Not many could do that and his home reflects it. Even more so, it is exactly as... More

The Harry S Truman National Historic Sight is a must see if you are interested in American History. Visiting the historic Truman home gives you insight as to what life what like during Harry Truman's life. Mrs. Truman continued to live in the house for many years after President Truman passed away.

Watched the film at the beginning. Lots of pictures and exhibits. Had a coupon for BOGO free. Also had a military member of our party get in free. Beautiful gardens outside with Bess and Harry's grave. Liked the recreation of the Oval Office. Glad to know that Mr.Truman came back to Independence to live after his presidency. Museum did not... Tickets are limited to eight per tour group and you have to purchase the tickets elsewhere. The tour is very informative.

A little dated, but a good visit, nice staff. A simple home, but nice. You used to see Harry taking his morning or afternoon walk around the neighborhood in the old days. Area hasn't changed much since then.
