Description: President Harry S Truman took America from its traditional isolationism...
President Harry S Truman took America from its traditional isolationism into the age of international involvement. Despite his power, he never forgot where he came from. Today, visitors can experience the surroundings Truman knew as a young man of modest ambition through his political career and final years as a former president.

Go to the Truman Visitor Center at 223 Main in Independence, $5 per adult. They also have a small gift shop and film there. Park across the street from the Visitor Center. Once you have your tickets, do what Harry often did. Go to the corner of Main and W Truman Road and walk left along W Truman Road five... More

We went to see the hone of President Harry S. Truman during our stay in Independence. The home was good sized, but modest. It was a greatly preserved piece of American history. Reccomend.

First get your timed group pass ( 8 in a group ) at visitor center 223 N. Main St. Now off to the Truman house on Delaware St. for your assigned time tour. Street parking only. An NPS ranger ( Norton ) opened the house and began our tour. The house was just like it was back when Harry and... More

Google location of Truman's farm. It sent us to the farm but the visitors center is over 20 miles away. We called at 4 saying that we were coming. Finally got to the visitors center at 445 and the ranger told us that it was closed. He handed us a Jr ranger book and told us that he had pulled... More

We were on our way from Sedalia to Baldwin City and looked to spend some time in Independence and really glad we did as we visited both the President's House and National Frontier Trails Museum plus a nice lunch! The reason for the title is that visits to houses as opposed to forts and museums rely so much on the... More

Worst docent ever. Actually got into arguments with 2 different parties about their behavior. Nasty and abusive from the very beginning. If you go and the guide is Norton Canfield, demand your money back!

This National Historic Site was excellent from beginning to end. We started out at the visitor center where you pick up your tickets for the house. Make sure to get there early to pick your times to tour the house. There are only a few spots for each tour and they seemed to fill up fast. The visitor center had... More

Enjoyed the visit to Truman's Home -- the National Park Ranger made our visit special. Had some very interesting stories and observations about the homestead.

It is a house that is exactly as it was when they last left it. Harry's last car is in the garage. His hat and coat are hanging where he last left them. Our tour guide, Norton, was fabulous! He did not give the impression that he was bored in the least. He answered all of our questions and added... More

The main things I knew about Truman were some of his sayings and that he was the president at the end of WWII. There were so many things he did I didn't know about, among them integrating the armed forces. The home was so interesting because it was like he just walked out the door. His car is still parked...
