Visted this site about 10 years ago and it's been almost totally redone. We loved the sister missionaries who were very wll informed and able to give the history of the area in reference to the church. We were traveling with our son and his family and the kids were very engaged with all the different presentations they have there.... More

Great tour and presentation downstairs on history of area and some great interactive things go do upstairs. Definitely a must while in town for LDS church history tour.

Just to underline what other reviewers have said - this is not the National Parks office, so no Harry Truman stuff here. This *is* the site for one of three faiths that claim holy ground in Independence, MO, which does make it, unintentionally, a "new Jerusalem" of sorts. Thankfully, the locals with religious differences manage things quite peacefully. This location... More

Many reviewers are confusing this LDS center for the Visitor center in the courthouse. This is an LDS (Mormon) only center. Only come here if you are Mormon or if you are interested in mormons or mormon sites. There is nothing of interest here unless you are Mormon or want to learn about mormons. For the mormon this is your... More

The official web page says "8AM - 5 PM Monday - Saturday" so I thought great an early start I get there and nothing, eventually I find a sign in the window open @ 10!!!! So I walked around and the best thing I found was Main Street Coffee House where I had a good expresso in a genuine cup.

Very friendly staff of missionaries who know their stuff. They were great to encourage my teens to ask questions. Also very helpful in telling us how to get to other hard to find attractions.

Run by the National Parks Service, you must purchase your tickets to the Truman home here. Easily accessible at top of Main street. The building is a converted firehouse. Staff is friendly and the intro movie of Harry Truman is informative
