We love touring old mansions and this one did not disappoint. It's beautifully and authentically restored. Loved that we could take pictures inside the home during the tour (no flash allowed, of couese). Tour guide was knowledgeable and nice. Well worth the price and the time.

Probably my favorite part of our trip! Beautifully restored and furnished, with a delightful volunteer providing our tour! Definitely worth the $6 to visit! (Now, if the other volunteers would just stay out of the way when tourists are attempting to take pictures!!!)

We toured this grand home during it's annual strawberry festival. The home is fabulous place to visit and tour. While in my opinion, it falls second to the nearby Bingham-Waggoner Estate, it is neverless is another Independence "must see".

We didn't have time for the full 45 minute tour but did see the grounds and 1st floor. This is on my list when we visit again. They have a wonderful collection of furniture and other items. i loved the wedding dress with fur. The grounds are like a park. There are 31 rooms so I just saw a sample... More

Absolutely one of the most beautiful historical homes I've ever been in! The history is captivating, as well as all of the beautiful furnishings from that era! It has been immaculately kept up.

We had a great tour here in a city that is rich in American history, well before Harry Truman. The guide was dressed in period costume and was really up on the history of the house and occupants. She told us a few neat stories of the past like the one about the painting on the ceiling of the bedroom.... More

I usually go to the Vaile Mansion during the Strawberry Festival every year. I usually volunteer at the Strawberry Tent. I have toured the Vaile at various times. The grounds are beautiful and the Vaile is exquisite!

Went here based on tip from Truman house staff--good suggestion! Four of us came here after touring Truman house. Staff graciously agreed to tour since we were all out of states even though we arrived about 3:20 (they close at 4). Don, the guide, was great and full of house tidbits.

My sister was visiting from Memphis and we all enjoyed our visit of vaile mansion. my husband and I live in Independence but had never toured the mansion, It was decorated for the holidays, so much detail in keeping everything as it would have been origionally. The staff dressed in period costumes was an additional treat. It may be slightly... More

Don interpreted the site perfectly, integrating stories that made the place come alive. Great interiors and fascinating background to understanding the neighborhood.
