an incredible & thorough look at the life of our 33d president AND his family as well as the time in which he lived and served. Enjoy the two films--one about his life and the other about his presidency--before exploring the replica of his oval office and all of the displays which almost make the man come alive. We are fans of Presidential Museum's to begin with but we really found this one to be most informative; this is our fourth Presidential Museum visit. An excellent representation of Harry Truman's life before becoming President and until his passing. Only about a 30 minute drive from downtown KC. We would highly recommend visiting this Museum when in the KC... More

We got to the library on a Friday just after it opened at 9:00 am. The charge is a modest $8.00 per person. A guide met us and other people and gave us a brief introductory tour. We were then left alone to explore. They have an exact replica of the Oval Office which was interesting. In the basement, I... More

It originally started as my "rainy day" back up plan but I'm very impressed by first class displays, a lot of historic artefects, documents. E.g. displays on WWII and atomic bomb, Cold war and cool documents like memo on U2 spy planes, firing of General MacCarter etc. Introductory 15 minutes movies is a must and if you still have time... The first presidential library I had visited! What a great. educational and informative experience!! Got a great understanding of such a down to earth average man becoming President during such stressful times!! Well worth every moment if ever in the KC/ Independence area. Well done and taste full!!

We had a great visit at the Truman Library and Museum. My spouse is the Presidential history buff in the family but I learned so much about Truman on our visit. The exhibits were well thought out, they seemed to give a pretty fair asessment of his tenure and of the times and the overall Mid-Century Design of the structure... More

We knew some basic facts about Truman and the historic events surrounding his presidency. However, our visit to the Museum and his home in Independence gave us a much greater appreciation for this common down-to-earth man who faced several very difficult situations during his term in office. Plan to spend half a day here to take in all the exhibits.

My husband, grown daughter and I made the trip to Independence specifically to visit the Museum. It was well-worth it. I found it interesting and learned a lot (I'm a history teacher). One thing that impressed me was that differing points of view were covered as the various Truman decisions were explained and put into context. I also enjoyed seeing... More
