Truman's two terms were chock full of important historic decisions: as a Senator he headed a Wartime Commission to fight corruption by wartime contractors. He made the decision to drop the atomic bomb in Japan, saving a million allied lives by avoiding an invasion and at least twice that number of Japanese lives who would have starved in any blockade... Second visit - better than first due to new/temporary exhibits. Had a family member with me that ENJOYED it! Great intro movie - WONDERFUL that President Truman narrated the visit to the Oval Office.

The Harry Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Missouri is an amazing place. The museum does a fantastic job of not just explaining Truman's presidency, but it also shows you in great detail how his presidency effected the world from the 1940's through the 1980's (and the end of the Cold War). Visiting this place gives you a better appreciation of... More

Don't know what I was expecting but this visit met them and more. The library and museum were just excellent. Everything was well laid out and easy to follow. The artifacts were both signifcant and interesting. The note from Wild Bill Donovan about dissolving the OSS and reminding the president he'd sent a set of principles for a central intelligence... We spent a nice afternoon wandering the museum, taking in all the exhibits. We really enjoyed all the museum had to offer and walked away with a better understanding of President Truman. FYI - be sure to step out in the courtyard to pay your respects to the president and his wife.

Well laid out museum highlighting Truman's term during the crucial days after WWII - Marshal Plan, United Nations, Berlin Airlift, the Korean War. They were not afraid to mention in passing his somewhat shady political beginnings with city bosses. Significant updates have been made since we visited several decades ago.

I think that this presidential library as opposed to others I have been has been planned to allow all to enjoy. Maybe this is due to the personality of Truman but there are activities for all ages with action areas, films with decision making and a lot of genuine artifacts. I think that it certainly would be good for a... More

Planned this in addition to WW1 Museum and found a treasure of knowledge on Pres Truman's life and times. The displays and videos are presented in detail. The cars are in pristine condition. The oval office is stunning. Plenty to see so give yourself time to view and read.

The Truman Library and Museum really summarize the essence of what Harry Truman was all about. Even his connection with the Pendergast gang is documented. Every step of his career is presented in an enlightening way. Truman is most remember for the 2 nuclear blasts he ordered on Japan, but most people do not recall his resolve in the Berlin... More
