I was fortunate to take a day tour on a boat around the backwaters with some local friends. The scenery is spectacular, both beautiful and interesting as it is a place of work and daily life. The boats offer a comfortable, serene tour around the backwaters with a stop for a local lunch of fried fish and other fresh foods.... More

Gives you a glimpse of the day to day life of the folks who live around the bay, the way they travel etc. We saw the Chinese fishing nets being used to collect fishes, saw local cuisine preparation at a hotel we visited. Definitely worth the money spent. Bargain though on the rates. If you travel in June/July/August, you can... More

Do take the government boat from alleppey to kottayam. The fare is rs 20 or so you can take the boat from the boat jetty. The scenic beauty is magnificiant. It is photographers paradise the journey time is approx 3 hours and the boat is a govt owned junk with benches as seat. The moment it leaves the jetty you... More

The word backwaters bring in a lot of excitement to many of us. Yes I am talking about the beautiful backwaters of Kerala - The God's Own Country. Kerala is the southern most state of our country with Arabian sea along the shores. Apart from this there are number of rivers and lakes in this small state. Now lets talk... More

Back water has a lot of advantage as it saves the place from pollution and yet one enjoys the surrounding scenic beauty of coconut trees, mangroves, and clean air adding freshness to the human mind. The blending of the nature around is so beautiful one wonders how mother nature has created all such beautiful things.

We spent a wonderfully peaceful day and night on one of the Ostrich cruiselines' boats in the first week of June, 2014. This was just after the tourist season had ended, so we had the entire two-bedroom boat to ourselves. The three-man staff on the boat were extremely pleasant and professional. The captain deserves a special mention for being affable... More

Even though I went in monsoon season, going for a canoe-ride on the backwaters was one of the highlights of my travels in India. Dreamy ride, so relaxing! I would highly recommend taking a non-motorised canoe if you can. Far more peaceful that way. I was almost lulled to sleep! A must do in Kerala!

The Kerala backwaters stretch for long miles in the interiors of Kerala. I visited the backwaters for the first time in Dec 2013, while staying at Punnamada. The morning serenity of the backwaters takes you to a world of your own, embedded with peace and tranquility. The houseboats moving in the backwaters are a treat to watch. It would be... More
