I really recommend kayaking through the backwaters if you enjoying a more active kind of sightseeing. We didn't go on a houseboat so I can't compare it, but this was a whole lot of fun. We did the 7 hour one starting at 11.30am. We had 4 kayaking sessions which added up to about 2.5-3 hours, which was definitely plenty!... More

We enjoyed Kerala Kayaking so much that we took the 4-hour excursion with them twice during our stay in Alappuzha. It was amazing to experience the backwaters this way, and there were a couple of stops for some nice 'street food' by the water side, including some very tasty banana cake. It's even better than seeing the backwaters by houseboat.

I went on both a houseboat and kayak tour while in Alleppy and if you have to choose one, definitely go for kayaking. You can go down the much quieter and smaller waterways and see wildlife like snakes and kingfishers up much closer. Samson our guide was friendly and fun too.

I went on the 7 hour kayak trip and in one word: fantastic! A lovely way to see the side canals, which are much more peaceful than the main waterways. Saw lots of wildlife, including three types of kingfisher in action and even spotted a couple of snakes. Also great to try some local food and just watch the world... More

My husband and I did the 7 hour kayaking and it was incredible. We were able to enjoy the communities as we traversed through the smaller backwater canals. Binu was a very knowledgeable guide, pointing out different animals, birds and plants. We had a wonderful lunch served on a banana leaf which consisted of grilled fish, prawns, pickles and curries. Tea and a light... More

This was our favourite trip on our holiday. We were picked up on mopeds from our hotel by two friendly and interesting guides who made a real effort to share stories, show us hidden delights and to point out a variety of wildlife in the surroundings. We trusted them so much that we went on to rent a houseboat from... More

This is the best way to see the backwaters. Going deep inside and seeing the dense greenery, houses with people going on doing the domestic chores, interesting birds was simply great. Binu was a great and cheerful host. First about Binu: I was the only guy up for tour (being September last year and slow) and was quoted a certain... More
