The distillery was definitely worth the trip. They give free sample of all 12 varieties - we went down the line and tried them all - surprisingly smooth and tasty, never had moonshine before. Ole Smoky is the first federally licensed moonshine distillery in the state of Tennessee. A visit to Ole Smoky is the true moonshine experience. As you approach the entrance, you can detect the distinct smell of our grains cooking and fermenting. You’ll see authentic working moonshine stills and experience the process from beginning to end. Our distillers will take the time to visit with you and answer any questions about the history and lore of moonshining in East Tennessee.After you see, smell and hear about the process, we offer you a taste of our shine for free. Samples of our Original Unaged Corn Whiskey, White Lightnin’ and Moonshine Cherries – plus we offer seasonal and special flavors that aren’t available in package stores. And of course, you’ll be able to buy plenty of moonshine and Ole Smoky merchandise to take home with you.

This is a very intersting place to visit. I hardly drink, but the apple pie moonshine is not too bad. I recommend a visit.

See & smell the whole process, self guided. Then taste all the varieties, it's $25 a bottle, and listen to Bluegrass music on the rocking chairs. Lots of fun. Didn't feel so much like a tourist "here in the holler".

I visited here this past weekend for the first time. You can sample the food and the moonshine before you buy,which makes it hard to choose what to buy because everything is wonderful. I didn't expect salsa, jellies, chow chow, pickles, etc. Its definitly on my list for another visit.

My husband and I had a great time sampling the shine with the blonde guy in overalls (whose name began with a 'D'.(sorry we could not remember;-)) The place reeked of smells similar to nail polish remover, but we were drawn in like a deer in headlights! This was a neat place in Gatlinburg. You can see how moonshine is made and even taste some (I.D. required). There is a larger souvenir shop with samples of jellies, salsa, and other items made with moonshine. The salsa was awesome!!!! This is a neat thing to see and it is free!
