We had not driven the loop in years. We were disappointed about many of the artists being closed on a Wednesday. We we're still able to take in many shops. I did purchase a print from an interesting artist that filled us in on her life as a park ranger. Some items were pricey while others were primitive. I will... More

If you go to the Smokeys and want to shop, make sure you visit the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community. The artists from the area have moved from the strip and now reside in the community. Truly gifted individuals display and sell their products.

Some very nice crafts. Fun to tour through. Not the typical made in ?????? some of the downtown junk.

We visited as many places that were open in February on a Sunday afternoon. My favorite place was a store that made everything from leather. Beautiful purses. Everyone who was open in the winter was very friendly and thankful to have customers even if we were just window shopping.

We visited the craft community late one afternoon, so we didn't get to see a whole lot of the crafters. Most all of them close at 5:00 PM daily. Of what we did see, things were pretty...and most a little pricey. But it is always fun to explore new places looking for treasure! Come and visit!

Love visiting the different shops in the area. I have pottery from a few of the places, not everyone makes the same pieces. Can't wait to go back in June to see the new pieces they will have out.

Spent a couple of days driving around here, and bought some nice pottery and olive oils. Problem is that even with the map, we couldn't find some of the places we wanted to visit, while others were closed. It's really pot luck!

Sad…This area in the 1990's was alive and vibrant with artisans. We went through this week and discovered that most are no longer and there are plenty of spaces empty, abandoned, or run down. Did they retire, move, or were the buildings just not being maintained by the landlords??? The are only a few artists left to see.

We revisited this community and found it as diverse as we expected from previous visits. Sculpture, paintings, photography, ceramics, woodcraft. And our favorite leathermaker The Real McCoy whose belts wear like iron. We even had a lovely lunch at the British pub Fox and Parrot. They have a huge selection of beers on tap.
